If your kids don’t look feral while camping, then you aren’t letting them run wild enough.

We headed down to Bremer Bay for the first time the other weekend and wow… safe to say it blew us away. It’s like a quieter, less crowded version of Esperance 😂

Endless stretches of stunning coastline, crystal clear water, and not another soul in sight. One of those places you almost don’t want to share.

Even better, it’s dog friendly, so you can bring your four-legged mate along without stressing about 1080 bait.

Never too young or furry to learn how to paddle 😂

Tackling a grade 4 and 5 hike with three kids aged four to ten was a mission and honestly Weano Gorge just wasn’t worth the effort. If you’re tight on time I’d skip it completely because Kermit and Hancock are miles better and easily our favourite spots from the whole trip.
Make sure you pack a waterproof bag, towels, warm jumpers if your kiddos feel the cold like ours do, and a first aid and snake bite kit.

📌 Buddhas Overnighter Campground

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but the rule stays the same for every one of these spots… drive in! Don’t pull up at the first empty site you see. Keep going all the way through, find your fave, then backtrack. The spots near the entrance are always packed in tight, but once you venture further in there are heaps of camps well away from everyone.

This one’s also super close to the Spa Pool, so if that’s on your list, stay here for the night and head to the pool first thing in the morning before the crowds roll in.

📌 Tiger Eye Pool Camp

Only 15 minutes from Tom Price, so it’s the perfect place to pull up after you’ve stocked up in town. Just like our other fave spot, most people stop right at the very beginning… but trust me, keep driving in. There are heaps of beautiful camp sites further along with no one anywhere near you.

This spot in particular is absolutely stunning, but because it sits right up on a little hill it is freezing. If you want to stay here, make sure you’re loaded up with firewood because you’ll be burning through it.

If being blasted by icy wind isn’t your vibe, there are plenty of sheltered sites tucked in closer to the mountain. Still just as beautiful, just not nearly as cold. 😂

📍4WD-only spot at the end of Albert Tognolini Rest Area

We stumbled across this one by pure accident and lucked out with it being completely empty when we arrived.

Albert Tognolini Rest Area is a popular stop for all kinds of setups, but most people pull in right at the start. If you keep driving, there are plenty of quieter spots tucked further in. And if you've got a capable 4WD, head right to the very end up the steep track. That's where you'll find this gem. Get in early because it's a bit of a gamble whether it'll be free.
If someone beats you to it, there are still heaps of great sites before it. Maybe that's what makes this spot feel so special.

“Don’t let them watch electronics… we didn’t have those when we were younger.”
Look, if something can make a 15 hour road trip even slightly easier, pack the iPad. You’re the one trapped in a car with three tiny gremlins… not the people giving you advice.

“Don’t let them eat in the car.”
Snacks are life on the road. Eating makes the drive feel quicker, keeps everyone happy, and buys you precious quiet time. Yes, the car ends up looking like a crime scene, but crumbs don’t scream.

“Travel during the day so they can get out along the way.”
Hard pass. Travelling at night while they sleep has been our secret weapon. Sure, you miss a few daytime views but I’ll take that over hours of whining any day.

“Stay at caravan parks so they have a playground.”
We love a good caravan park, but honestly nothing beats a remote camp where the kids can run wild, be loud, and explore without disturbing anyone for kilometres.

“Don’t take them on hikes… their little legs won’t keep up.”
Do the hikes. Every single one. We finish hot, sweaty and half-broken while they’re sprinting ahead like they’ve just started. Kids are wild like that.
