The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has clarified that it has not authorised any door-to-door verification of identity cards, fingerprints, photographs, or biometric data.

The clarification follows the circulation of a social media message warning of individuals posing as Home Affairs officials.

While appreciating the public's efforts to raise awareness, the Ministry urged citizens not to share personal or biometric information with unknown individuals and to report any suspicious activity to the Royal Bhutan Police or the relevant government agency.

The country recorded a slight increase in overall crime rate in the first half of this year. The Royal Bhutan Police registered 1,270 cases between January and June this year, up from 1,247 cases during the same period last year. However, the number of drug cases declined compared to the same period last year. The Deputy Chief of Police shared this at a press conference today while presenting the half-yearly update on the country’s crime situation.
