📍 Granite Gorge

What’s better than a riverside campsite? A riverside camp with friends!

Days were spent in the water: rope swings, kayaking, swimming
by the water: fishing (catch and release, all turtles were returned to the water safely)
And exploring the Granite Gorge - a 1.8km loop walk with super friendly rock wallabies making an appearance and love being fed.

Mareeba is also only a short drive into town where we were able to visit The Big Hat and Mt Uncle Distillery

Stephan and I worked together back at Noosa North Shore while he built the Spaetzle Meister van from the ground up

Cairns

We would spend the next few weeks at Cairns Coconut Resort 🌴 It would be the second time we have been there and if you’ve been, you know the kids love it here 🛝

We were mainly here for this amount of time as we had to do repairs on the Y62…

This is how it went:
Enjoyed Happy Hour ⇾

⇾ Charlotte would do some hustling doing either face paints or selling bracelets

⇾ Fun all day does come with some injuries SURVIVAL First Aid Kits

⇾ An impromptu Wonderland RV | Australian Made Caravans owners catchup for cavanaghs_gone_cruisin 30th (there were about 9 Wonderlands in the park 👌🏼

⇾ A visit to the AAAM which I would highly recommend, it has the biggest collection of tanks in Australia. There are sometimes demonstrations and hummer rides so be sure to check their website

⇾ Head go-karting and laser tag Cairns Kart, Laser & Escape with our mates thetravellingfrys

⇾ Treat our self to dinner with a view Squires Loft Cairns

⇾ Finished with YoPhoria • Frozen Yoghurt & Acai Cairns

⇾ Of course find some animals at the local markets Roaming Wild

⇾ Explored the water ways with the Quintrex | Also highly recommend Tackleworld Cairns for all the local knowledge and gear

The best way to start the day 🚤

We would spend the next few weeks in Cairns (more to come on that shortly) and enjoyed exploring their waterways, with unfortunately not much luck on the fish however enjoyed chatting to the team in Tackleworld Cairns about how bad I am at fishing 😅

Kuranda Sky Rail and Scenic Railway

Which way do you do?

We took the sky rail up to Kuranda, a 45min ride that stops at Red Peak and Barron Falls.
Hop off at each stop, explore the small rainforest walk then head back on the skyrail to make your way to the top of the mountain.

Having a full day to explore Kuranda, we walked around the markets, visited the local shops, a lolly shop and of course the pub for lunch.
Kuranda Birdworld was requested by the kids. A small bag of food was provided and the kids (along with every other Tom, Dick and Harry) tried to get the birds to land on them.

The scenic railway was a 90min ride down the mountain, past Barron Falls.
You are assigned allocated seats but have easy access to all the windows for views

Time to Continue our way South

We leave Daintree Beach Resort which was the perfect spot to relax after over a month up at Cape York

📍 Mossman Gorge

Based on its name, Mossman Gorge is located in Mossman, just on the entrance of the Daintree Rainforest.

Park your car and hop on the shuttle bus to take you from Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre to the heart of the Gorge.

We explored the Rainforest Circuit Track, an easy 2.4km walk. The gorge is famous for its huge granite boulders and crystal-clear waterways, which make those swimming spots look almost unreal.

*keep an eye on the water levels and warnings, as currents and conditions can change very quickly - there are information boards with up to date warnings scattered around the gorge*
