Still get a heap of questions about what was the golden key that allowed me to recover from “V” injury. People think it’s going to be some kind of pill or medication, something immediate and not requiring of self work.

The golden key for my recovery was letting go of my fear and anger. Fear and anger create a stress response. The body doesn’t know the difference between the stress of fear and the stress of an imminent mortal threat. That stress causes a multitude of issues including preventing the body from healing.

It was hard, but I did the work and let that s**t go. That allowed my body to start recovering but also allowed me to start making good health decisions and stop making decisions that pushed me further into poorer physical and mental health.

The following comes from a journal article titled - The Impact of Psychological Stress on Wound Healing: Methods and Mechanisms by Jean-Philippe Gouina and Janice K. Kiecolt-Glasera

“Individuals who experience greater levels of stress are more likely to increase their alcohol and to***co use, decrease their participation in physical activity, experience sleep disturbances, and make poorer diet choices, compared to individuals reporting less distress. These negative health behavior practices can then compound the detrimental impact of stress on physiological healing processes”
