Our kitchen cabinet doors had wood trims along the top that make the kitchen look dated

So I had the idea to somehow take them back down to be even with the rest of the door, fill them, & then paint over the whole thing with laminate paint 💡

The problem of how to get the wood level with the rest of the door was solved by using my router. I’m still learning how to use it as I’ve only used it for one project previously, so there were a couple of teething problems 😂

…but I did manage to get the wood fairly even with the width of the rest of the cupboard door 🙌

The Builders Bog was one you mixed 2 parts & it set quickly. I used almost 2L of it filling all the indents in the cupboards, but it was convenient that it dried so quickly

Although, as time went on & I got more confident mixing it, I also got caught out mixing too much at a time & it started to dry before I’d finished using it 🙄

Then I sanded the bog back & went over it with heavy duty filler. I should probably have done this one more time just to clean up any tiny holes or uneven sections, but since we’re on a short timeframe I decided it was good enough to paint

Painting the laminate doors is something I actually love ❤️ I love bringing old cabinet doors back to life without having to pay thousands for a new kitchen

The laminate doors have 1 coat of primer, & 2 coats of laminate paint - all sanded in between

I’ll post up some before & after photos when I get a chance 😉

The 3rd & final set of curtain tie-backs I’ve made for our house ❤️

These ones were designed by me 😊 (after having 2 practise runs following other creator’s patterns)

Although I don’t actually think I actually posted the very 1st set I made 🤔

Just finishing up the house reno now & then I can get back to creating new macrame patterns & videos 🙌

What macrame project are you currently working on?

The last reel revisiting the finishing knots: The overhand knot

Just FYI, the wrap knot can also be classed as a finishing knot, but since I already posted a reel on it under basic macrame knots I’ve chosen to leave it out this time 😉

The overhand knot is the most well-known knot. When you first learned how to tie a knot as a child, the overhand knot would be the one you learned!

But just in case you missed it (or have forgotten how to tie it), here’s a quick tutorial on how to tie the overhand knot:

Although often not included in macrame knot lists, the overhand knot is helpful to know. It’s mainly used to tie off the ends of the cords to prevent them from unravelling, but can also have other uses in macrame such as providing a starting anchor for a cord.

1. Form a loop by crossing the ends of the cords.
2. Bring one end of the cord up and thread it down through the loop created.
3. Pull to tighten.

Combining 2 of my loves: Renovating & macrame ❤️

I’ve started styling some of the rooms with little hints of macrame here & there 😉

I made this curtain tie-back following a YouTube video by .id

It took me agggess! Definitely not a quick project 😂 …but they’re my favourite curtain tie-backs I’ve made so far ❤️

I did run out of cord a little earlier than I should have though, so if I made them again I’d add 10% onto the cord lengths because I think my curtain tie-backs ended up a touch short

Also - I probably should have set up the camera stand so I could secure the tie-back using 2 hands - but I didn’t bother 🙄 I made it look much harder than it actually is in this reel 😂

Let me know in the comments if you’d like the link to the original Trini ID tutorial I used to make these 😉

The fairy wall hanging is one of my designs 🧚 I’m yet to make a pattern for it, but there probably will be one coming out in the future

The final reel in this 5-part series on how to start a macrame plant hanger without a ring…

Option 5: Half hitch spiral knots

Comment “ringless” for the link to the blog post with full instructions and photographs

1. Measure out an extra cord 2.5m long
2. Gather the cords needed to make the plant hanger together & work out where the middle is
3. Start about 90mm before the middle as the knotted section will cover approx. 180mm
4. Using the extra cord, tie half hitch knots around the middle section of the gathered cords until about 180mm is covered
5. Fold in half to form the loop
6. Measure out a 750mm cord for the wrap knot
7. Secure loop with a wrap knot at the base of the half hitch knots
8. Cut loose ends of wrap knot & half hitch knots
9. Glue cut ends to prevent fraying and slippage

Progress on the kitchen bench…I’ll share a more detailed reel of the steps I followed to change the colour of the bench in the next couple of days 😉

How to tie a heaving line knot in macrame:

The purpose of a heaving line knot is to add weight to the end of a rope to make it easier to throw (or heave 😉). In macrame, it’s used as a decorative way to finish off the end of a cord and also stop the cord from unravelling

1. Loop the loose end of the cord to the left, then up and over itself (to the right). Ensure you leave a enough cord to complete the knot.
2. Wrap the loose end of the cord around the back then over the front so you pull the two sides of the loop together.
3. Continue this process of wrapping the cord around until you have the number of wraps you desire.
4. To finish off the knot, thread the loose end of the cord through the loop just below the wrapped section.
5. Cut the excess cord below the knot (unless you’re using the knot as a decorative knot mid-way through your piece!)
6. Apply a little glue to the end of the cut cord to stop it from fraying and keep it firmly in place.
