📻 Yorga Yarning on 100.9FM Noongar Radio with your host Sharon G.
We are honoured to have a yarn with the incredible Marie Pryor, a proud Whadjuk Noongar Elder with ancestral ties to Ballardong and Gnaala Karla Boodja.
Marie is a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a proud fourth-generation descendant of the Stolen Generations, and also a survivor from her time in the Mission.
With over 55 years of service in both the health and justice systems, she has devoted her life to uplifting and supporting mob in the community.
Marie has also shared her story through the documentary ‘Genocide in the Wildflower State’, which was taken to Parliament in Canberra by Yokai as part of truth-telling efforts.
This documentary has been screened in various theatres across Boorloo (Perth), as well as in hospitals, prisons, and across the mining, oil, and gas sectors.
She currently works at Melaleuca Women’s Prison, where she passionately advocates for Aboriginal women and supports them as they transition back into community. She also delivers culturally grounded programs to support healing and connection.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Marie worked tirelessly with homeless mob in the city, Boorloo (Perth). She is also a director of the Voice of Hope Aboriginal Corporation, and in 2022 was honoured with the NAIDOC Theme Award: Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
Marie continues to serve through her roles as a valued member of:
• The Anglican Advisory Committee
• Langford Aboriginal Association
• Cultural Advisory Committee for Ballardong
• Homeless Committee with Wungening
• Nanas for Kids at Banksia Hill
We’re so excited to have Marie featured on the Yorga Yarning Show – her voice is one of strength, hope, and unstoppable spirit 💛
