With over 55 years of service in both the health and justice systems, she has devoted her life to uplifting and supporting mob in the community.

Marie has also shared her story through the documentary ‘Genocide in the Wildflower State’, which was taken to Parliament in Canberra by Yokai as part of truth-telling efforts.

She currently works at Melaleuca Women’s Prison, where she passionately advocates for Aboriginal women and supports them as they transition back into community. She also delivers culturally grounded programs to support healing and connection.

🌿 Meet Emily - this week's guest on Yorga Yarning 🌿

Emily is a proud Noongar yorga, a working mum, and devoted wife. Her story is grounded in love, culture and community.

She’s the kind of woman who shows up for others even when the load is heavy and still finds space for humour and heart 💖

When she's not juggling the demands of family life (and sick kids during a rough school holidays), Emily finds joy in music, Disney classics, movies and a bit of trashy reality TV. Right now, she's especially invested in ‘Building the Band’, hosted by AJ from the Backstreet Boys.

Join us for a yarn full of laughs, resilience and real talk with a few great tunes along the way.

We are honoured to have a yarn with the incredible Aunty Tina Hayden, a proud Nyoongar woman, Elder, and Knowledge Keeper who stands with strength and purpose, holding the memory of her Old Ones close.

A proud Nyoongar Yorga, Tina honours the legacy of her ancestors through every word she speaks and every life she touches.

In the photo (pictured), Tina holds close an image of her mum, her Matriarch, reflecting a deep spiritual connection to her roots and the generations of women who walked before her. Her journey is guided by culture, by Lore, and by the Spirit of Nyoongar Country. Her hands hold memory, voice, and legacy.

As an Elder in our community, Tina is also a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother - a woman who walks strong for her people. She leads through truth, healing, and cultural pride, teaching the power of connection and the importance of walking alongside, not ahead.

Whether she’s welcoming people to Country, sharing yarns, or holding space for grief and healing, Tina walks her Bidi with dignity and fire - always guided by the spirits of those before her.

Tina's vibrant shirt (pictured) sings with Country - telling stories of fire, healing, and life. Her presence is not just seen, it’s felt. She is a storyteller and truth-holder, a healer of hearts and a speaker of truth.

She is a woman raised in culture, living in strength, and passing on legacy - a bridge between generations. Her Nan’s wisdom is in her voice. Her mother’s love is in her spirit. And her grandchildren’s future will always rest in the palm of her hands.

Tina speaks not just with words, but with heart, with memory, and with land. Her story is one of resilience, resistance, and deep cultural love. Tina now walks as an Elder, carrying her Elders with her, guiding the next generation.

Recently, the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA) was honoured to host Tina through Yalkarang Consulting for a special "Engage an Elder" session. Staff had the opportunity to connect, listen, and yarn in a warm, informal setting - deepening cultural understanding and strengthening community ties through meaningful conversation, learning, and truth-telling.

It’s a privilege to have Aunty Tina Hayden on the Yorga Yarning show - her voice is steady with truth, rich with memory, and filled with the spirit of her ancestors 💛

Last week, Bella B and I headed out into the community and had the honour of attending Aunty Viv Hansen’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Champion Centre. We had the privilege of sitting down with some incredible cancer survivors and community members who generously shared their powerful stories.

🎙️ Tonight, we’ll be playing those heartfelt interviews - stories of strength, resilience, and connection. Don’t miss it!

We’ll also be having a yarn with Simone Smith Riley about her first Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, happening this Friday, 13 June at 10.30am at Altone Pavilion (aka Altone Park Leisure Centre), 332 Benara Road (cnr Danube Ave and Benara Rd, Beechboro.

Simone lives in the City of Swan, and is a proud Noongar yorga who has ancestral ties to Gnaarla Karla Boodja, Ballardong, Wagyl Keip and Whadjuk.

This upcoming event is especially close to Simone’s heart, as her children’s dad and her mother both passed away in 2021 from two different types of cancer. Simone has chosen to host her morning tea on her mum’s birthday - a beautiful way to honour her memory 💐

Come along if you’re free - enjoy a lovely cuppa, morning tea and a yarn for just $10, with raffles and fundraising to support this important cause.

Tune in tonight - and if you can, show your support on Friday.
