A huge welcome to one of our July/August Fellows, Rochelle Pickles – KSP's July/August Fellow! ✨

During her stay, Rochelle will be diving deep into the next stage of her literary fiction project, refining a particularly tricky section of the manuscript as she edges closer to preparing it for wider feedback. With a focus on themes like family, social activism, and class, her work explores contemporary Australian life with heart and nuance.

Rochelle will be making the most of KSP’s peaceful surroundings to find clarity, fresh perspective, and a good dose of motivation. We can’t wait to see where the words take her!

🎉 A massive congratulations to Kristy Nita Brown! 🎉

Kristy has been selected as the Children’s Writer-in-Residence as part of the Love to Read Local initiative, and we are thrilled to have her spend a week with us here at the KSP Writers’ Centre as she works on her latest project and soaks up the creative vibes!

As part of her residency, she’ll also be running a very special workshop this Saturday: “Story to Shelf – How to Publish and Share Your Work”
Unsurprisingly, the workshop has already booked out and we can’t wait to welcome 15 brilliant young writers through our doors, so they can learn all about preparing their manuscripts and getting published!

Kristy was selected by our wonderful judge Alison D. Stegert, an award-winning children’s author based on the Sunshine Coast. Alison writes whimsical picture books and thrilling novels for readers aged 9–14, and is a passionate writing coach and workshop facilitator. Thank you, Alison, for your time and thoughtful judging!

🎉 KSP TURNS 40 TODAY! 🎉

On July 8 1985, the very first Katharine Susannah Prichard inaugural meeting was held - the beginning of what would grow into the vibrant KSP Writers’ Centre we know and love today.

Last Saturday, we came together to celebrate this remarkable milestone with a heartfelt and joyful gathering. It was an afternoon to reflect on 40 years of imagination, expression, and community and a chance to officially congratulate our 2025 Literary Development Awards recipients, shining a spotlight on the next generation of Western Australian writers.

Marking this anniversary is more than just celebrating the passage of time, it's about acknowledging the incredible network of people who’ve helped shape Katharine’s Place into the cultural cornerstone it is today.

To our founding visionaries, generous donors, program partners, devoted staff, passionate volunteers, gifted writers-in-residence and fellows, cherished members, and the many visitors who’ve walked through our doors over the years - THANK YOU! Your dedication and belief in the value of writing and community have kept Katharine’s legacy thriving.

Here’s to the next chapter in the KSP story! 🖋️✨

A special thanks to Alia Bath, KSP Board Member, who photographed the event.

🎉 Say a big KSP welcome to our UpComing Writer-in-Residence Emma Pignatiello! 🎉

Emma’s heading to the hills with one big mission: to finish the next juicy instalment in her romantic suspense series and get it ready to send off to her agent and editor. She will be using her residency at KSP to give her manuscript the final polish it needs to shine. 💻✨

Emma is also aiming for a full-time writing life, and plans to pay it forward by running workshops and events to help fellow writers chase their own publishing dreams. 🚀

We’re so excited to have Emma on board and can’t wait to see where this residency takes her (and her characters)! 🖊️💥

🌟 Welcome to our June–July KSP Fellow, Kate White!

We’re thrilled to have Kate joining us as she dives into her latest project - a heartfelt, relatable story that promises to spark conversation and connection.

Kate’s work is all about giving voice to experiences that often go unspoken, and we can't wait to see how her story evolves during her time with us. With her trademark warmth and insight, she’s crafting the kind of book that lingers long after the final page.

We're cheering Kate on as she soaks up some uninterrupted creative time at KSP, and we’re pretty sure the coffee and quiet will help fuel some literary magic. ☕📚
