The annual Lamb advert by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) just graced our screens during a tea break at the SCG test match. Created by The Monkeys and Directed by Yianni Warnock this years offering completely hits it out of the park. It plays host to the same great cinematography that we've come to expect but the concept is simply brilliant, give it a watch, you'd be
Un-Australian not too 😜

There's a word. And it's dividing the country. Watch the latest Lamb ad to find out what really makes us all Australian.

"Today I present to the West Australian people a paper which I believe will be found entirely
worthy of their support. I am proud and happy to say that I have been able to obtain the co-operation of the brightest and best of our local journalists." - Edward Ellis inaugural editor of the Sunday Times

On the 19th of December 1897, the Sunday Times - 'A journal for the people' later 'a paper for the people' printed it's first edition. The paper's political and journalistic opposition and its support of reform reflected divergent outlooks in Western Australian society at the end of the nineteenth century. Branded a radical publication by conservatives, the Sunday Times also portrayed the nature of some Western Australians' political and literary radicalism (A PAPER FOR THE PEOPLE?: THE SUNDAY TIMES 1897- 1905. By Karen Byers, 1993)

At 11 am on 11th November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back and the Germans had called for an armistice to secure a peace settlement.

The end of the First World War would in later years become the date we use to commemorate and remember all those who have lost their lives at war.

Edward George Honey was a Melbourne journalist living in London who first suggested the solemn ceremony of silence to commemorate those who had lost their lives. He asked for five minutes of national remembrance. Since that first proposal on the 8th of May 1919 in the London Evening News the length of silence has gone from 2 minutes to 1 minute.

To learn more about this little-known Australian read this great article from ABC’s Miyuki Jokiranta. https://ab.co/3DhqMN0

Lest We Forget.

Nearly 100 years after it was created, the minute's silence is still used to mark tragedies. But few know it was the idea of an Australian journalist and soldier named Edward Honey.

Under tonight’s blood moon lawyers, journalists, students and curious minds gathered at the The Law Society of Western Australia Old Court House Law Museum to be part of a truly unique event. ‘When Justice Goes Wrong: The Lived Experience of John Button’ was a panel discussion looking at miscarriages of justice and innocent people seeking exoneration. Journalists Estelle Blackburn, Bret Christian from POST Newspapers, John Button, Naomi Button, Jonathan Davies, Prof Pamela Henry and Clint Hampson made up the panel. The most striking aspect is the fact John Button is a man at peace. Happy to be living his life, grateful for his family as he leaves his legacy. He is not a victim but a a man fighting to help exonerate others like himself. He is truly inspiring

1 in 4 Australians will celebrate Halloween tonight, will you be one of them?

Halloween has faced a divisive reception in Australia over the years, with some people embracing the spooky season and others shunning it as "Americanisation at its worst", but consumer data shows the annual tradition is catching on.

58 years ago today Eric Edgar Cooke became the last man to be hung in Western Australia at Fremantle Gaol. Cooke turned the big country town of Perth into a city with his one man crime spree that included 8 murders, 14 attempted murders and over 250 burglaries. We spoke to Bret Christian, editor of the POST Newspapers about his memories of the time and the search for truth he undertook with fellow journalist Estelle Blackburn that would ultimately result in two men being exonerated for crimes Cooke had committed.
