Encouraging one another to get out into the freshair, maybe try something they haven't done before. Push yourself physically, experience the wonders of nature and surprise yourself at what you're capable of.

------------

I grew up in Sydney, Australia in a family that never went camping or on outdoors adventures. Therefore, it came as somewhat of a surprise to discover bushwalking and camping in

my mid 20′s and it fast became somewhat of an obsession. Since then, I’ve become a leader with the Sydney Bush Walkers Club and the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad, an affiliate squad of the Volunteer Rescue Association. The outdoors totally changed my life and I’m keen to share my knowledge and stories with others – hoping that they’ll catch the bug too! When I’m not out in the bush, I can be found running a Production and Consultancy company based in Sydney, shooting in remote and logistically tricky locations such as jungles, volcanoes and on the high seas. You can email me at [email protected]. In July 2013, as an avid user of their products for over 10 years, I was delighted to be appointed a Macpac Ambassador.

There's something pretty powerful about seeing our own stories play out on the bigscreen. As an Aussie, bushwalker and lover of nature, seeing the places I know and love (plus the ones I don't have permission to see) captured on film, helps me interpret the world and our place in it. As a lover of the Blue Mountains and the Coxs River, I was drawn to the doco, 'The Man From Coxs River', when it was released and have since had the incredible experience of visiting the river with the subject of the film, Luke Carlon. If you love a good Aussie story and am curious about our relationship with water security, natural areas and introduced species, you might find this flick a good watch!

Sneak behind the locked gates of the Water Catchment land of the Coxs River, and hear the story of how horseman & a ranger fought an unseen villain.

I've been testing this tent for over a year now — from winter overnighters in the Blue Mountains to multi-day trips in Declared Wilderness where every gram counts. It's now my go-to shelter.

At just over 1kg, it hits a genuine sweet spot between ultralight weight and actual livability. But it's not perfect — the single-wall section at the head means a beanie is essential, and the vestibule won't fit a bigger pack in bad weather.

I've laid out exactly what Nemo got right, and where I reckon they could improve.

GRAB SOME WILD! Do you love reading words and seeing imagery that transports you to some wild, natural space, with the lovely tactile feel of a good magazine? I've recently had articles published in Wild Magazine and have been honoured to be able to share stories that dig a bit deeper to the how and why of adventure. My chats with the editor, James, show that he is dedicated to curating a truly great publication, in the style of traditional moutaineering and wild journals from around the world. Wild has solid Aussie roots with a heart and head for the environment and issues that matter to lovers of the bush. Why not pick up a Wild subscription and see for yourself? https://subscribe.wild.com.au/index.aspx?R=6093

The words '3 Peaks' mean different things, to different people, in different states or parts of the world. In my little part of the world, it means the 3 highest peaks in the southern Blue Mountains and a traditional challenge (completely nutso!) for physical and navigational experts. Being someone who loves their sleep and likes to find herself horizontal when it's dark, I shy away from the type of punishing schedule the challenge demands. So rather than 3 Peaks in 1 day, I set out for 3 Peaks in 3 days... and enjoyed my sleep (and creature comforts) very much. Q: Do you have a 3 Peaks story?

The Three Peaks in the Blue Mountains of NSW, Australia is spoken of in hushed and reverent terms by bushwalkers. This isn't that type of walk 3 Peaks trip!

There are a stack of different ways of carrying water on a bushwalk or hike. I don't just mean a bottle or bladder you take with you for a day hike, it's more about how you manage the extra water that you need for cooking dinner and filling up for the next day on overnighters or multi-day trips. I'm an old goon-carrier from way back (and let it be known!)... Q: What about you? What's your fave way of carrying/transporting water in the bush? https://lotsafreshair.com/2022/03/08/best-ways-to-carry-water-on-a-hike/

The best ways to carry water for a hike or bushwalk, including soft and hard container options, plus tips for gathering water on a hike.

Have you ever dreamed about a solo long distance walk? What about somewhere lush and inspiring like France? How did you plan or prepare? What fears did you have? Here's my mate Sharon's story about her adventures... ah, c'est la vie!

Sharon Livingstone steps away from busy city life, for a 260km solo walk in the Dordogne region of France. What she took and what she learnt.

To boldly go where no tracks exist takes a solid bit of map reading and route finding experience. Here's a wee trip report from a happy time, along a snake-infested, Blue Mountains creek. Gotta love summer in 'straya. Q: Do you have a snake story from a bushwalk or hike?

I've heard about Galong Creek for a few years, but finally get a chance to visit this hidden gem in the Blue Mountains.

Do you wish you had a handy checklist (and a video!) to see what you need to chuck in your backpack for a day hike or bushwalk? Easy as! I've got you covered. Q: What are the top 3 things you always pack on a day hike?

If you're new to hiking and want to learn what to pack for a day hike, I've given you a bit of a sneak peek into what's inside my day pack. You'll also be able to download a free checklist in the coming weeks, so check back soon!

So tragic, but some seriously good learnings and lessons in this story. I encourage you to read it to the end. Fit, some local knowledge and somewhat experienced... Don't let it happen to you or those you love.

The last photos of two trampers who died 900m from safety show the bravado that killed them, police say.
