Opening night tonight | ÀṢÀ / UMUCO

Step into a vibrant celebration of culture, history and identity. Through archival and contemporary images, projected imagery, bold prints and collage, this exhibition brings stories of belonging, tradition and resilience to life.

We’re very excited to announce our next exhibition: ÀṢÀ / UMUCO.

“ÀṢÀ” means “Culture” in Yoruba. “UMUCO” means “Culture” in Kirundi.

Bringing together multidisciplinary artists Mohammed ‘Ayo Busari’ 💫 and , ÀṢÀ / UMUCO explores African culture, traditions and heritage through sound, images, collage, poetry and projection.

Rooted in personal histories from Nigeria and Burundi, the exhibition reflects on memory, identity, migration and what it means to carry culture across borders.

At its heart, ÀṢÀ / UMUCO is an offering, a space for understanding, connection and collective remembering.

MEET THE SPECIAL GUESTS PLAYING AT THE BIRD 🎈

CLARE PERROTT ✨

Alt-folk singer-songwriter Clare Perrott is quickly becoming one of Australia’s most exciting emerging voices. Blending delicate vocals with raw nylon-string guitar, she’s performed at Woodford Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival and was awarded the Emerging Artist Prize at Nannup Music Festival.

JOEL TANE ✨

Joel Tane creates heartfelt guitar-driven songs inspired by love, nostalgia and growing up. Influenced by artists like John Mayer and Passenger, Joel’s honest songwriting has made him one of Boorloo’s rising singer-songwriters.

RUBY DELGADO ✨

Ruby Delgado blends folk, Latin, rock and jazz into poetic songs inspired by life’s biggest and smallest moments. Her raw, energetic performances celebrate storytelling, connection and music that stays with you.

THIS SUNDAY ✨

Join Ayo Busari for a joyful event, as part of Black Diaspora exhibition and community gathering, an intimate afternoon of live music, storytelling, conversation, and community at Midland Junction Arts Centre.

Blending performance, artistic reflection, and shared creative exchange, the event will feature live music and special guest performances with Alyssa Dalao and Prince Attwood, as well as an artist talk exploring the ideas, stories, and creative process behind the Joy & Balloons EP.

The afternoon will also include a community conversation on creativity, identity, storytelling, and the role of art in bringing people together, as well as an open mic that welcomes emerging and established musicians, poets, spoken-word artists, and creatives to share their work in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Whether you’re coming to listen, perform, reflect, or simply connect, this event is an invitation into community, creativity, and shared experience ✨
