It’s the first Friday of Lent, and I’ve been reflecting on what this season looks like as a new mum.
In past years, Lent was about giving something up, a specific food, a habit, or a distraction. But this year, with a 3-month-old, I feel like motherhood itself has been a season of constant ‘giving up.’ Giving up sleep, giving up my own schedule, and giving up my own ‘plans’ for the day.
But as I sat with my Bible this morning, I realized that Lent isn’t just about what we give up, it’s about what we take up. It’s about taking up a heart of gratitude, taking up a spirit of patience, and taking up the grace that God so freely gives us in the middle of the 4 AM wake-up calls.
Maybe this Lent, for us mamas, the ‘sacrifice’ isn’t about doing more. Maybe it’s about doing less so we can see Him more in the messy, beautiful, and holy work of raising our little ones.
How are you approaching Lent this year? Whether you’re fasting from something or focusing on a new habit of prayer. I’d love to hear your heart in the comments. 🙏👇
