Adam Tan is a marimbist, educator, composer and content creator based in Perth, Western Australia. Adam is most known for being a YouTube content creator on THE STUDIO, a self-produced YouTube show uploading weekly episodes for education and entertainment about various topics relating to percussion. Since 2016, THE STUDIO's global audience has grown to over 27,000 subscribers and 3 million views,

and has featured instruments and guests from all over the world.

Adam has performed and presented globally in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and the United States. Highlights include performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), inc. percussion days (Japan), PAS Hong Kong Days of Percussion and Oh! Asian Percussionists Series (Hong Kong), Malaysia Percussion Festival, Chosen Vale Percussion Seminar (USA), Australian Percussion Gathering (Australia), and masterclass presentations at the 505A Percussion Gathering (Hong Kong), MalletLab Summer Intensive (USA) and at various universities and schools across Taiwan. As a composer, Adam's works for percussion appear in repertoire lists in schools, competitions and festivals around the world, including the UIL Texas Prescribed Music List (PML). Adam's debut album Hope featuring recordings of eight of his works is available to listen to on all music streaming platforms and stores, and sheet music is available on his online store.

Back home in Perth, Adam is the founder and director of Marimbafest Australia, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of percussive arts in Australia. Marimbafest Australia curates the annual international marimba festival and competition Marimbafest (with festivals in 2019 and 2021). Adam is currently a tutor at the University of Western Australia and also teaches privately at his studio.

Adam has a Master of Music (Research, Percussion) and Bachelor of Music (1st Class Hons) from the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music, receiving the Lady Callaway Medal for Music, Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Prize in Third-Year Performance, ROSL Postgraduate Scholarship, UWA Graduates Prize in Music and the Australian Postgraduate Award. Adam was under the tutelage of Paul Tanner, Nicole Turner, Tim White and Louise Devenish and received mentorship from Mark Applebaum, Kuniko Kato, Doug Perkins, Suyin Tan and Nancy Zeltsman.

Adam is a Signature Artist of Encore Mallets (USA).

Introducing my upcoming USA tour in November 🇺🇸

I am super excited to finally present SELF-MADE - a tour representing the journey of making your own percussion path! I'll be doing the following:

✔️Presenting new career, performance and composition masterclasses designed for this tour, as well as workshopping with the amazing students of the Houston area
✔️Presenting "JOY", a new solo recital program with Chin-Ping Tammy Chen's amazing students at the VCS Conservatory of the Arts (we're playing Song From The Heart together!)
✔️Attending PASIC as a Artist - presenting my session "The Self-Made Percussionist" and also guest panelling for "Challenging Expectations" alongside Aiyun Huang, Beibei Wang and Taku Hirano moderated by Matthew Lau!

The National Drumline Camp 2024 presented by D2Drumline is happening here at Scotch College in September, and I'm excited to be the instructor for the NDC's first ever Front Ensemble (keyboard percussion ensemble!) 🎹

I'M PRESENTING AT PASIC 2024 🔥

I'm very excited to announce that I will be presenting on the official schedule of the world's largest percussion convention, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) 🥳

I've attended 4 PASICs already (2017, 2018, 2022, 2023) and done every other possible kind of presentation (booth presentation/meet and greet/product demo) but never got to have a session all to myself before - thank you Percussive Arts Society!

My session is called 'The Self-Made Percussionist: 10 Tips To Build Your Career Opportunities' - a brand new clinic about simple methods to help create and maintain a career path for yourself in today's digital age as a percussionist :)

I'm also going to be doing a small tour in Houston + San Francisco area just before PASIC, so this US trip is going to be big! I look forward to seeing you all there soon!

I remember visiting QCGU in 2016 for the Australian Percussion Gathering and it's an honour to come back 8 years later presenting about topics that can hopefully help these bright percussionists with their own percussion journeys, no matter where it takes them ☺

Rebecca is gonna be coming to Boorloo/Perth for a few shows and a masterclass and that's what I love about our Australian community - collaborating and connecting no matter where we are!

Took my Marimba One One Vibe that I bought last year on its first external gig today - wheeling it 3 city blocks from CPP His Majesty's to the convention centre in the hot sun ☀️

Today's gig came courtesy of StudyPerth, Western Australia for the APAIE 2024 Conference and Exhibition, solo performing as entrance music for the Presidents' Lunch involving five top university VCs from around WA. Thank you Fionna and team for having me ✌🏻
