Up to 40 Western Australian public schools have been selected for the 2026 Minister’s Innovation Challenge, a six-week programme starting in Term 4 that pairs teams of six to eight Year 8 students with an industry mentor to identify a local issue and design a solution. Final pitches are due on November 20th, and the five top-ranked teams will share $35,000 when the winners are announced on December 3rd.
Now in its fifth year, the Challenge is coordinated by Bloom Centre for Youth Innovation, a Perth-based, youth-led not-for-profit that runs entrepreneurial education programmes for young people, delivers professional learning to teachers, and assigns industry mentors to participating schools. Bloom has worked with more than 130 schools across WA.
