I love it when professional people like Prof. Ruth Stewart sees the big picture of Gynaecological Health awareness. I wish to share her latest post. Thank you Ruth from the bottom of my V.

"I am delighted to promote International Gynaecological Awareness Day (IGAD). I am trained as a Rural Generalist with Advanced Skills in Obstetrics and have spent a lot of my working life talking with women about their bodies including their gynaecological anatomy.

There is a long and sad history of women feeling shame about their bodies. This is crazy. We should celebrate our bodies which can create and nurture, give us pleasure and perform complex functions. The embarrassment and confusion we feel about the female ge****ls has serious consequences for our health. I could go on and on about this, but I will start with the need for us to be able to talk about our own anatomy. We should have words to describe our gynaecological anatomy. We should know what is normal for us and that if we think something is wrong to seek help from health care professionals.

Because of social media rules I can't use gynaecological drawings or photos , so I have been a bit creative here to illustrate what I am talking about. Have a look, share wherever you wish and please spread the word about IGAD.

A huge round of applause for Kath Mazzella OAM the v***a cancer survivor on a mission to stop the silence about gynaecological cancer. Have a look at her website: https://lnkd.in/gzscpfyc Think about hosting an event in your community. Kath offers lots of resources to help you.

After undergoing a radical vulvectomy in 1994, I dedicated myself to raising awareness about hashtag ***ahealth, especially concerning hashtag ***acancer. In 2002, a poignant message from a woman at Womens Imaging USA highlighted the impact of v***a cancer on families, urging me to write an article for their journal. My journey reflects the ongoing need for greater acceptance of all v***a health issues. Progress is evident, yet there remains a significant gap in women's groups addressing this crucial topic on their health agendas. hashtag hashtag

I wish to share what drives me for an International Gynaecological Health Awareness Day IGAD September 10 2024 so you can gain an understanding of why we need such a day. As most know, I have a lived experience of V***a cancer 30 years ago. Back then I felt pretty much ostracised and isolated by many and it was a very male dominated area of womens health. I placed an advertisment in a womans magazine. The overwhelming responses compelled me to give voice to those women and find a new perspective with all things Gynaecology/V***a Health to rid of the shame and embarrassment to empower women. As you can imagine a huge task. In 2000 I formed a not for profit GAIN Inc. which I am now a separate identity and still a life member. I am recipient of 10 awards, however without action from these awards it seems superfluous. Whilst in GAIN RANZCOG Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology wrote an artcicle in 2001 for GAIN. Upon receiving the hard copy of the magazine I was totally amazed at the front cover picture from 1811. I felt a great need to push forward to give voice to women hence I appeal to you to support IGAD 2024. Some may not approve of my approach however without funding/acceptance to be heard at times this is the best I can do with little resources. I have witnessed many women suffering in silence - some even passing begging me to create changes. I can't do this on my own and I can't thank those enough who have seen the big picture and advantage of celebrating the day to create greater funding, research, education and support for women and families. Let's all join and and celebrate our magnificent bodies, and OUR cycle of life. x Kath Mazzella OAM
