One of the things I've loved most about my writing journey is the people I've met along the way.

This month I've decided to support some of the indie authors who have encouraged me, shared my work, cheered on my successes, and generally made social media a more enjoyable place to be.

I recently finished reading this lovely poetry collection by Seema Patel and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The book contains 30 poems on a variety of topics, each accompanied by a beautiful colour photograph. I found the combination of poetry and photography made for a very relaxing and thoughtful reading experience.

If you're looking for a collection of uplifting and insightful poetry, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a read.

I used to think slow cookers were cheating.

Now I think they’re just survival when you’re trying to get dinner on the table with a child in tow 😅

Happy Saturday ☕🌈

It’s supposed to be raining here all weekend, so I’ll be out searching for rainbows… mainly because I heard there’s liquid gold at the end of them.

I had so much fun at the Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival the other weekend that I've already booked accommodation for next year's festival.

Before anyone gets too impressed, it's 100% cancellable and I don't have to pay until May next year. 😄

Life might get in the way. Plans might change. I might not be able to pull the funds together.

But for now, it feels good to have something pencilled into the calendar.

And if I do make it back next year, that's something lovely to look forward to.

Until then, I'll keep working towards it.

One night while fast-walking on my treadmill (because I don't run), a random story idea popped into my head. That idea eventually became a psychological thriller short story that went on to earn Top Story and Honorable Mention on Vocal.

It's now included in my collection of psychological thriller short stories.

Funny where inspiration comes from.

On Day Two of the Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival, I attended a flash fiction masterclass with Gillian O'Shaughnessy, and I left feeling completely inspired to write.

From six-word stories and stream-of-consciousness exercises to sharing our work with the room, it was a fantastic session and one of the highlights of my weekend.

I've written about my experience here.

After weeks of sitting untouched on our shelf, I finally gave up today and returned Wash Your Hands, Mr Panda to the library.

We own two Mr Panda books, have borrowed several others, and have read them so many times I could probably recite them from memory.

But for some reason, my son has decided that Wash Your Hands, Mr Panda is not worthy of his attention.

I don't know what Mr Panda did to offend him. 🤔

My only regret is that I never read it myself before returning it.

After following Mr Panda's adventures for so long, I'm actually quite invested in his story now and would like to know what happened.

Oh well, I borrow it again in a few weeks and keep trying!

Today is National Simultaneous Storytime here in Australia! 📚

For anyone outside Australia, National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event where children across the country gather to read the same Australian picture book at the same time. It's a wonderful celebration of books, literacy, imagination, and the joy of sharing stories together.

This year's book is Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A. Minton.

I have to admit, I've never heard of this one, but I will be looking for it next time I'm at our library.

As a book lover, writer, and mum, I love anything that encourages children to develop a love of reading from an early age.

My little guy is at daycare today, and his centre will be joining in at 10 am (we're in Western Australia, so we're a couple of hours behind the eastern states).

Happy National Simultaneous Storytime to everyone taking part! 📖❤️
