Koala Crossing Oceans

Koala Crossing Oceans We’re a 50+ couple diving into sailing, learning step by step with a dream to circle Australia and maybe the world.

Adventure can’t wait for retirement — we’re chasing it now while we’re young enough, mobile enough, and ready to live the dream.

This is as close to sailing I am getting at present with work commitments.🙃 Nice to be back in Perth for a few weeks though. Hillary’s is one of my favourite breaky spots when here. Surrounded by yachts and boats of all types. It helps keep the dream alive and reminds me what all the hard work is for. Staying focused. ⛵️😁

Hello 2026.

2025 was one of those years that reminds you life doesn’t move in straight lines.

Professionally, it was a strong year - progress, momentum, things I’m proud of.
Privately, it was tougher. A few health scares with my heart slowed me down. Those moments change you. They strip things back to what actually matters.

As we turn the page, I’m looking ahead to 2026 with hope and a quiet determination to keep chasing the sailing dream that sits at the heart of Koala Crossing Oceans. Less rush, more purpose. More horizon.

Most of all, I know how lucky I am.
To have an incredible wife and life partner in Jacqui, who stands steady no matter what the seas are doing.
And two amazing kids who are genuinely good humans which, when you’re raising children, is really all you ever hope for.

Here’s to health, perspective, open water, and moving forward one crossing at a time.

Across my career, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work in countries like Papua New Guinea, learning, listening, sharing stories, and building genuine connections with some of the most welcoming, resilient, and generous people I’ve ever met.

The landscapes are breathtaking, but it’s the people, culture, and sense of community that stay with you. Every visit has reinforced the same lesson: real growth happens when you slow down, show respect, and meet people where they are.

As I look ahead to future adventures, I can’t help but feel excited about the idea of returning to this beautiful country again, this time from a sailing perspective. Exploring the coastline, islands, and villages by sea feels like the perfect way to reconnect with a place that has already given me so much.

So much beauty. So much heart. I can’t wait to be back. ⛵🪸🌴

What a beautiful day here in Brisbane ☀️ Blue skies, warm breeze, and that unmistakable feeling that the Christmas wind-down has officially begun.
If you’re heading out on the water over the holidays, enjoy every moment, soak it all in, slow the pace, and make the most of this incredible part of the world. 🌊⛵
Have an amazing time out there, look after each other, and stay safe on the water.
Here’s to sunshine, salt air, and a well-earned break 🎄✨

The things I am starting to learn as I take this deep dive into the world of sailing!

The ocean doesn’t rush you. It listens. It carries you. It reminds you how small you are and how free.

The coastline, though? That’s where decisions matter. Wind shifts, tides tighten, and complacency gets exposed.

Sailing teaches you quickly: Respect the sea. Stay alert near the edges. And never mistake calm for control.

A nice morning spent at the Get Onboard Boat Expo! Great to check out some of the boats available from & as we consider all our options for boat ownership in the future.

A positive to come from a forced rest while recovering from heart surgery is time to read some sailing books I have been wanting to get to!
My manager sent me “The Long Way” to read while I was recovering. That’s a great leader! 🤗⛵️

It’s been a tough week health wise and certainly a time for reflection on what’s important in life!

Today’s boating adventure while in Perth for work was to visit the Royal Perth Yacht Club! Next weekend I will head down to Fremantle and check out the yachts. If anyone in Perth has room for a new sailor to tag along let me know. 😁 I would also love to check out a trawler style boat to assess all our options. 🙃
