Happy Thursday folks! Well, happy for some.

I’m closing the studio again. I’m absolutely fed up with the equipment being mistreated. Never mind the details, it doesn’t matter. Until I have *completely* idiot-proofed the place, Black Dog is closed. Effective close-of-business tomorrow.

Y’all gotta remember - I don’t have an income. This place only stays open from the revenue it generates. And that’s barely enough to keep the lights on. When the gear is mistreated the way it has been here, there’s not a lot left over for repairs.

And you know what really grinds my gears? The fact that the only things I have to say on my own page are negative. There’s nothing positive to be said. Makes me wonder why the f**k I’m doing it in the first place.

Quite frankly, if you wanna treat the place like garbage, go somewhere else. Go somewhere that smells weird, has no soundproofing, and has terrible gear. I don’t want you here.

EDIT: I’m turning off comments (hopefully). This isn’t a discussion.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary “Angry” Anderson on the eve of Monday 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia.

Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.

The family and band members are asking for privacy at this difficult time and will not be giving interviews. We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take time they need to grieve.

We thank everyone for their prays and messages of love and continued support.

As Dan would say, hey there Rockstars!

Tonight we have a small announcement, the new doors and fittings are done! As is the patch bay housing in the wall! We have to thank Mitch from MRH Carpentry & Maintenance for making this happen so quickly and painlessly (for us!). Text him if you need work done - 0424 063 728.

So other than a couple of small things and Dan finishing off the new console and installing the hardware, we’re done!!

Well rockstars, that was the weekend.

There’s been a fair bit going on lately. Had a young fella from Redcliffe High in on work experience, the old workstation is gone and I’ve knocked together a new console arrangement ( to be finished up this week with the assistance of the inimitable Marshall John Cullen), and we’ve carpeted the live room.

It’s starting to look a whole lot sexier, and there’s still more to come…stay tuned.

There’s been a bit of work going on at BDM this last week.

The layout in the control room was driving me bonkers. So I did what any idiot does - turns some perfectly good tree parts into a frame for a console-style layout. Control room was three-parts gutted to make way for the new layout, and the frame fit like a finger in a bum.

Almost.

I measured the corner angle a couple degrees wrong. Whoops.

Anyway, there’s a tracking session on tomorrow, so I’ve had to MacGyver a working rig from what I had left under the sink…ugly but functional. She’ll get a little gussy-up next week…

Yesterday the lovely Michaela laid down some piano, and today she’s gonna be getting acquainted with my little friend Mister Neumann.

I’ve heard this girl sing. This won’t take long at all…

Ok folks. One of the monitors in the room is buggered (you guessed it, blown tweeter module again) and the level on it was completely maxed out. Meaning that someone has switched things on and/or off in the wrong order at max volume.

I would have hated to be in the room when that happened.

Since my suggestions for avoiding this kind of thing haven’t worked, I’d like someone out there to tell me what to do to stop my speakers from blowing up.

I shouldn’t have to make basic controls inaccessible. Nor should I have to keep putting my hand in my pocket for people who can’t take care with the gear. So short of those, tell me what to do.

I’m out of ideas.

Context: we went to Police Week in Washington DC. A small step into my former life…
