Telstra 5G is coming to Wilton

Telstra will be upgrading its mobile base station that services Wilton to bring new 5G coverage to the area.

Telstra 5G delivers increased capacity, which means more consistent speeds, smoother streaming and typically faster download times. Delivering 5G to the area will also help boost the area’s existing 4G performance.

Mobile services in the area will be temporarily affected while the upgrade works are underway.

Telstra Regional General Manager Chris Taylor said ” Bringing 5G to the area is a major mobile milestone. It will deliver higher speeds and capacity to the region, meaning faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion.

“Some disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, but we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”

Telstra mobile customers will receive texts advising of the upcoming work. Landline services, NBN internet services, and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.

The site will need to be switched off during the following periods:

From 7am on Monday 11 August to 5pm on Friday 15 August.
Up to 2 hours per day from Monday 18 August to Wednesday 20 August.

Telstra is urging business owners talk to their bank about connecting their EFTPOS terminals to their NBN or Wi-Fi connection to prevent delays in processing transactions.

Customers will be able to make calls and send texts during the disruption to mobile services by switching on Wi-Fi Calling. This is a free setting on most mobile phones and allows mobile phones to make and receive calls while connected to Wi-Fi.

⚠️🌧️ WARRAGAMBA DAM LIKELY TO SPILL
- WaterNSW

- 11:26PM, Sunday 3rd August

Warragamba Dam is close to full capacity and based on current forecasts, Water NSW expects it to begin a small spill in the next 24 hours.

Under NSW Government rules, Warragamba Dam operates as a water security dam. This means it must hold as much water as possible for Greater Sydney's water supply, at all times. Stored water cannot be released.

Other dams in the Hunter and New England regions are also currently spilling. View current levels at waternsw.com.au/nsw-dams

It was emotionally draining for the team to work on this issue of Wollondilly Express. Unfortunately there are also more crime reports within the paper. The Shire desperately needs a Police Area Command and despite Judy Hannan MP - Member for Wollondilly pleas to the NSW Police Minister there is no sign of a PAC in the near future.
There are some good news stories on the pages, featuring some remarkably talented young athletes and tireless volunteers - the good in the community being the majority.

On sale Friday morning.
