The 43rd annual Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon was labelled a triumphant celebration of endurance, community spirit and the beauty of the region by the Flinders Ranges Council.

There were almost 280 people competing in the marathon on Sunday, June 29, with competitors crossing a new finish line set in a central location in Quorn, marking a successful milestone in South Australia’s marathon calendar.

There were cool and calm weather conditions which made it an enjoyable experience for runners, as David Staehr was crowned winner in the Full Marathon – male category, while Anna Pearce was first in the female division.

Business Port Augusta (BPA) has appointed Sharon Taumaunu as the city’s new business and relations coordinator.

The position, funded by the Local Buying Foundation, also ensures recognition of the Foundation’s support across business events, initiatives, and communications that contribute to growing Port Augusta’s economic strength.

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) visited Port Augusta recently in order to run Regulatory Roadshows for associations in the city and surrounds.

The sessions were coordinated by Regional Development Australia Far North through its Regional Leadership Development Program.

The program has a focus on providing training for volunteers involved in local community groups, clubs and associations.

The Switchback Riders Club has successfully raised $4000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) through a number of activities.

The funds were officially handed over to the Port Augusta RFDS Auxiliary during a presentation on the weekend, marking a significant milestone for the club, which only began in late 2023.

The club held its annual charity ride on Friday, June 21 with strong support from riders and local sponsors.

The Spencer Gulf Cities mayors and chief executive officers met last month as part of the cycle of bi-monthly meetings.

Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone, Port Pirie Mayor Leon Stephens and Port Augusta Mayor Linley Shine and their respective CEOs discussed a number of issues, including progress with the preparation of a range of “liveability” videos being designed to showcase the region’s offerings for new workers and their families seeking employment in the local projects.

The event has returned to the Flinders Ranges and the Southern Flinders and it is set to have even greater energy than years gone by, proudly celebrating its 21-year milestone.

Port Augusta Pride Picnic has put out an expression of interest for performers and stall holders to become part of their event program for 2025.

The 2025 Port Augusta Pride Picnic will be held on Saturday, November 15, and all acts wishing to be involved must be family friendly.

The event will be held on the east side foreshore again.

An increase in heater-related fires has sparked a warning from authorities for residents to check their winter appliances and use them safely around the home.

The MFS have attended 11 incidents across the state this year, resulting in around $1.1 million of damage – compared to 8 fires linked to electric or gas heaters, combustion heaters and fireplaces at the same time last year.

In 2024, MFS and CFS crews attended a total 47 related blazes – an increase of more than 50 per cent on the previous year, with 31 incidents recorded.
