We knew sailing from New Zealand to Australia across the Tasman Sea during winter was going to be challenging and it was, but we did it! We left Marsden Cove, NZ July 6th and had to sail north to avoid a low coming west from Australia. We encountered some rough weather as it passed below us and at one point the wind jumped to 35 knots so we turned downwind to run with it. The wind shifted to the north so we had to sail south, then it died and we turned west again.
The weather wasn’t the only challenge as our escape hatches started leaking pretty much right away. We debated turning back but Fabio was able to manage the leak with a sort of putty called Stay Afloat and the bilge pumps. We were certainly happy to arrive in Bundaberg, Australia safe & sound on July 17th. Normally we would have posted updates during the trip but I (Kristin) was quite seasick for most of it and had blurry vision for a bit from the scopolamine patches.

Yoda was a champ on this trip and was cleared into Australia only a few hours after arrival. ❤️
We’re excited to be in Australia and are looking forward to connecting with the fellow sailors and divers here! 😊
