A walk through Cattai Wetlands on Monday.

It used to be farmland. MidCoast Council bought it in 2003 and has been restoring it ever since. It reopened in late September after being closed since the 2025 floods.

It would be a great walk for bird photographers. I don't have the patience for it.

Take the Aerogard. The mosquitoes are big and there are plenty of them.

Looking for something to do these school holidays? Rawson Falls in Boorganna Nature Reserve is one of our favourites, tucked up on the Comboyne Plateau about an hour's drive from Port Macquarie.

It's a 5km return walk through beautiful rainforest, a little steep in places, and can get slippery after rain, so decent footwear is a good idea.

Well worth the effort once you reach the falls.

From the archive — documenting the completion of D5, the Dunbogan section of the Beach to Beach Shared Pathway last year. Roughly 230 metres of boardwalk over water, connecting The Boulevarde to the Dunbogan Boat Shed.
