The Port Germein Jetty opened 17 July 1881. It was further extended in 1883 and quoted as the longest Jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at approximately a mile and a quarter in length (2kms). The first part of the Jetty was made from Sugar Gum from the Wirrabara Forest, with the remainder of the Jetty made from Jarrah from Western Australia. Built at the time by J. Wishart at a total cost of £17,000, including the extension.
Confirmed as a State Heritage Place in 1984. 📍 Nukunu Country.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to capture quality photos and supply them by deadline.

NAIDOC WEEK
COME TOGETHER - Sunday July 6 to Saturday July 12, 2025. NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience.
The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of the communities, and the legacy of the ancestors.

HOW TO BE INVOLVED IN PORT PIRIE

RAISE THE FLAGS - Monday July 7 at 10.30am, City Park in Ellen Street (between the council offices and Ellen Hotel), led by local Aboriginal community artist and educator Judy Crosby. Following the flag raising, a community-led march will make its way from City Park to the Cultural Precinct Rose Garden in front of the Port Pirie Regional Library. Road closures will be coordinated with support from SAPOL.

NAIDOC AWARDS - Monday July 7 from 11am to 1pm at the Port Pirie Regional Library, Wandearah Road. Come and celebrate the first year of awards recognising the achievements, skills and positive contributions that individuals have made to our community across four categories: Elder Award, Youth Award (aged 12 to 25 years), Community Involvement Award and Sportsperson Award. A community event will include marquees, stalls, and activities, live entertainment by musician Craig Atkins, free BBQ and cold drinks by Lions Club and free hot drinks by Shots Fired Barista, art-making and cultural activities for all ages as well as displays, information, and interactive community stalls.

CULTURAL COOK UP - Thursday July 10 from 10.30am, Napperby Scout Camp. The Aboriginal Health Team invites everyone to enjoy a feed of kangaroo tail and damper, a yarn and a warm fire. For information and transport assistance please contact 8633 0585.

NAIDOC BALL - Thursday July 10, 6pm to 9pm, Port Pirie Sports Precinct, Mary Elie Street. For ages 10 to 17 years, a free night of music, dancing, food and drinks. Formal wear, hair and makeup appointments available at no cost. Register with Hayley on 0427 394 025.
