UNCOVERING PORTLAND CEMA'S RICH HISTORY.

80 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG!

Portland C.E.M.A. (Council for Encouragement of Music and the Arts) was formed in July 1945. To mark the 80th Birthday milestone, a series of Lesley Jackson’s taped interviews with early members from the 1980s and 1990s have been digitised with the assistance of Glenelg Shire Community Grants. (Arts and Culture) We couldn’t get audio for all interviews, but we did find transcriptions from the 1990s. The stories are wonderful and provide a glimpse into life in Portland after WW2, the fun and friendships made in CEMA and the passion of early members to build an arts centre. We will continue to upload more interviews to Victorian Collections website and will notify the community via "Bygone Portland" facebook and our own page
