Sketch Group

Sketch Group We use sketching to tell stories, solve problems, explain ideas, and capture conversations. We sketch stuff. We're pretty good at it!

For example:
* we create hand-drawn videos that make dry or complex information fun or easy to understand
* we live sketch your conference or event
* we capture your ideas and turn them into a powerful one-page sketch
* we run training sessions to teach you how to sketch like a pro

Behind every sketch, storyboard, and visual idea is an artist with a unique creative journey.

Today, as part of our ‘Meet the Artist’ series we’re excited to introduce you to one of the illustrators shaping the way we communicate through visuals. Here’s Princy Peter’s story in her own words:

”Hi! I'm Princy Peter, a freelance animator, designer and illustrator! I'm a graduate of the RMIT Animation and Interactive Media course and have been working in illustration for the past 6 years. My art usually involves bright colours and sketchy, soft lines. I also do hand-drawn 2D animations and comics in my free time.I got my first drawing tablet at 15, and since then I've been painting over digital canvases on programs like Photoshop, ToonBoom Harmony and Clip Studio Paint. I believe illustration and animation is one of the most creative ways to learn and understand other people.”

At the Turn Up in Blue Day community event, the Sketch Group team were there hosting IdeaSketch™ — creating a visual space for people to share ideas, connect, and reflect on what mental health and wellbeing mean to them.

Alongside local service providers, we spent the day supporting conversations that matter and helping make mental health a little easier to talk about.

A huge thank you to Veterans SA for inviting us to support the final session of their 2025 Career and Business Mentoring Program.

Our role? Turning the day’s conversations, learnings and lightbulb moments into clear, engaging visuals that help veterans take their next step with confidence.

We’re grateful to be invited back — and inspired by the impact this program continues to make across South Australia’s veteran community.

Meet Mirranda Burton next as part of our ‘Meet the Artist’ series - an artist whose creative journey started at a very young age.

Mirranda Burton has been drawing ever since she can remember, and decided at the age of 10 it would be her job. Today she is an illustrator and visual storyteller based in Melbourne/Wurundjeri country, and has more than 20 years of experience in visual arts, design, animation, illustration and education. She is the creator of two graphic novels ‘Hidden’ (Black Pepper Publishing) and ‘Underground: Marsupial Outlaws and Other Rebels of Australia’s War in Vietnam’ (Allen & Unwin). Since joining the Sketch Group team in 2021 she has fallen in love with the practice of graphic recording, developing a visual style that engages with metaphor, play and accessibility. Her involvement to date has included a diverse range of sectors including health, welfare, community development, science, engineering and First Nations advocacy. Mirranda teaches visual storytelling at Collarts (Australian College of the Arts).

Company values can sometimes fade into the background — framed on the wall, but forgotten in practice.

Butler Plumbing Pty Ltd wanted to change that. They wanted values that guided decisions, inspired conversations, and strengthened their identity from the inside out.

We helped them tap into what those values really meant to their team — and translated those insights into visuals that could be seen, shared, and lived every day.

Here’s some news we’re incredibly proud of…

A research project featuring an animated video we co-created with The University of Newcastle, Australia's Caroline Gibson has just been published in a peer-reviewed article, recognising the real-world impact of transforming research into engaging visual communication.

Caroline’s PhD research revealed important insights to help general practice nurses better support people living with dementia. She came to us with a clear mission: make those insights practical, memorable, and accessible for time-poor nurses who need information they can use immediately.

Together, we transformed her findings into an animated sketch video — supported by a poster, checklist and slide deck — built around a relatable clinic scenario that practitioners could quickly understand and apply in their practice.

Huge congratulations to Caroline Gibson — and thank you for trusting us to help bring this work to life!

This week’s featured artist in our ‘Meet the Artist’ series, is Robin Cave. Here’s Robin’s story in his own words:

”I grew up in Geelong except for three formative young years in Tokyo. Obtained a Diploma in Graphic Design and later on, a Bachelor of Illustration. I started out working on TV commercials, music videos and eventually feature films.

I have freelanced for many years and I like working from home on a range of creative projects, especially ones where I get to do some drawing.

I started working for Sketch Group back around 2014, mainly doing Whiteboard or Explainer Videos. I estimate that I have worked on over 75 video and animation projects over the past decade.

On the weekends I like to get off the computer and get into my studio and do some drawing or painting, maybe make a linocut or fire up the laser-cutter and cut some paper.”
