Hume, in Melbourne’s outer north-west, is a diverse local government area, with 140 ethnic groups, speaking 125 languages. The area is between 13km to 40km away from the Melbourne CBD, with a population of about 157,000. By 2030, the population is projected to be more than 240,000 people. About 65 per cent of Hume is rural land, 25 per cent is urban and the remaining 10 per cent is occupied by Melbourne Airport.
The Northern Leader covers the Hume suburbs of Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Craigieburn, Gladstone Park, Greenvale, Meadow Heights, Roxburgh Park, Tullamarine, Westmeadows and Yuroke. Also covered are the Moreland suburbs of Oak Park, Hadfield, Glenroy and Gowanbrae.
