Email reporter Himangi Singh at [email protected] Hume, in Melbourne’s outer north-west, is one of Australia’s most diverse local government areas, with 140 ethnic groups represented in the area, speaking 125 languages. There are numerous contrasts in Hume, with a large industrial area in Campbellfield, urban residences around Broadmeadows and Gladstone Park and semi-rural areas such as Gr

eenvale and Sunbury. The area is between 13km to 40km away from the Melbourne CBD, with an area of 503 sq km and a population of around 157,000. By 2030, the population is projected to be over 240,000 people. About 65 per cent of Hume is rural land, 25 per cent is urban and the remaining 10 per cent is occupied by Melbourne International Airport. Its boundaries include Merri Creek, the Maribyrnong River, the Western Ring Rd, the Calder and Tullamarine Freeways and the northern outskirts of Sunbury, at the foothills of the Macedon Ranges. The Hume Leader was first published as the Broadmeadows Observer in 1956. Today the Hume Leader covers Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Craigieburn, Gladstone Park, Greenvale, Meadow Heights, Roxburgh Park, Tullamarine, Westmeadows and Yuroke. The Hume Leader social media team includes editor Peter Taylor and reporter Natalie Savino.
