As a kid I was always bad at maths. The pressure if needing to know my timestables, not understanding certain maths concepts and having to compete against others made me feel stupid and embarrassed 😳😥

But since becoming a teacher my mindset about maths has changed 🧠

I have taught the foundations of maths in simple terms to young kids and in doing so, my own knowledge and understanding of maths has grown. 📈 This has shown me the importance of laying the foundations to our kids early on, so that we can help set them up for success later on in life 🏅

With that in mind, I have decided to share 5️⃣ simple ways that you can develop early maths skills with preschoolers and toddlers through simple, every day experiences 🎉

It's no wonder our kids are always needing our attention! 🤯 Is anyone else relieved to know it's not just their little one who has the attention span of a flea? 😅

Remember that these numbers are generalisations, each child is different and there are many factors that can impact these! 🦄✨️

🌈 Make unenjoyable tasks creative ~

Incorporating education through play based learning activities can support growth & development because it's hands-on and fun! (Follow .little.learners for ideas 😉)

🌈 Change the environment they're in ~

Being in the same space all the time can be boring and stale. You'd be surprised the difference something as simple as taking your kids' toys outside can do to their mood & engagement levels 📈

🌈 Rotate their toys ~

Changing up your kids toys keeps them interested in what's on offer and can expand their imagination 💭

🌈 Take regular brain breaks ~

If you notice your child getting wrestless, give them a break! Take them outside and get their bodies moving. This will help increase their blood flow and activate their brain to support greater focus when re-engaging with a task 🧠

🌈 Make sure they aren't hungry or tired ~

It may seem obvious, but feeling tired & hungry can massively impact a child's attention span and focus levels! 🥑🍓

One of the most important things that we learn when as educators is that there is more to teaching than just 'teaching'. The little people in our classes come with a wide range of individual needs, learning preferences and developmental stages which we must cater for, in order for each child to flourish to their full potential 🌈

I'm sure if you have multiple children, you would know how different and unique each individual can be! One might have started crawling before the other, yet the other might have spoken first. One might love drawing while the other prefers building with lego. That's because no two children learn and develop the same! 🤩😎

Before we jump into all the fun stuff, I thought it was important to set the context around how different activities will support different areas of your child's development, and what these all mean 🤔

I have put together a nice little compilation to explain this, and have thrown in some examples of activities that can support each area, to help us all understand how wonderful and complex growth and development really is! ✏️⚽️🗣🎭🧩

Wow, what a year it has been! It's hard to believe that we've only been open since Feb! 😲 I'm so proud of how far I have come and how something I invisioned to never be possible, has become a reality - all thanks to your support! 🤗😍

It has been a roller-coaster of emotions starting this business. From excitement to self-doubt, fear and overwhelm, I've gone through it all, but I am still glad I took a leap and did something outside of my comfort zone.

With that in mind, I wanted to let you all know that next year will be my final year of business 😔 It was a difficult decision to make but stepping away from the gram over the past few weeks has made me realise how much stress I have put myself under and how much time running this business has taken away from myself, my kids and my family. Not to mention how expensive it is to continue bringing our new products every few months - it's something I just can't continue to maintain.

I still have a couple of new items coming out early next year but I have decided that that will be all from me. As much as I would love to continue, the constant stress and overwhelm is all too much and I would rather put my energy into more positive things, like my family.

So for now, I will be taking a long deserved break to help me reset and recharge for what's coming in the new year before I shut up shop for good.

The website will be down from Dec 16th and will reopen again early Feb, but I will keep you all posted!

I will be popping up here every now and then to give you some sneak peeks of what's brewing behind the scenes and let you all know what I'm up to.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported me in any way, big or small, during this past 11 months. I appreciate you more than you know! 💜💜💜
