The Labour Mobility Unit would like to advise all workers under the PALM scheme that it is very important to clearly understand the terms and conditions of your visas before travelling to Australia.
It is a legal requirement under this visa (PALM Visa sub class 403) that an approved employer must sponsor individuals. Travelling to Australia under the PALM Visa without valid sponsorship is a breach of visa conditions, unlawful, and may result in deportation.
Recently, two Solomon Island nationals were detained at Brisbane Airport and deported back for breach of visa condition. This is something we must avoid from happening.
Workers must also understand that the sponsor or approved employer owns the visa and whenever you fail to perform to expectation, the sponsor can terminate the sponsorship and hence the visa.
This clarification is issued to ensure there is no misunderstanding regarding the conditions of entry and stay under the PALM program. Visa holders and applicants are urged to verify their sponsorship status before making any travel arrangements.
Workers were normally informed on visa information during contract signing and Pre departure briefings.
