JUST IN| šæš¦ South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the recent anti-immigrant protests in the country, describing the xenophobic and violent attacks as a source of deep concern and shame.
Speaking at the SADC Public Lecture at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on August 14, 2026, Ramaphosa criticised the mistreatment and forced displacement of foreigners, calling it a betrayal of regional unity.
He stressed that South Africa cannot advocate for regional integration while promoting exclusion at home, urging the country to support lawful movement across borders and work with neighbouring nations to tackle the underlying causes of migration.
