Do any of these bring back memories?

I’m always dealing with dead CD cases. Cracked, dirty, etc which need to be thrown out. Before chucking them, I always try to salvage the cool price and hype stickers. Total nostalgia for me of how music releases have been promoted over the years.

I particularly love the price stickers with so many of these great music stores that have long closed their doors.

Seen any of these before? Any memories from these cool releases or the places that sold them?

Side note: I’m shutting down Andy Social Records as of Sunday evening (19th Oct) for a couple of weeks while we move. Last orders on Sunday with last mail out on Monday. After that everything is getting packed up! Go have a gander or even better, check out those carts you have pending in Discogs.

The more I sell over the weekend, the less I have to lug to the new joint and the more beer money I have 😂❤️🍻

April reads. 22 of 74 so far read in 2025. A real mixed bag here.

Both Whiteley books were great and i’m thankful that I read the Hilton/Blundell one first, as I don’t think I would have enjoyed Frannie’s book as much otherwise. It was a great set up and framing for the alley-oop that Frannie’s candid story told. Nailed it.

Seth Godin’s book was a typical Godin book. Insightful and a nice recalibration of whatever rubbish paradigms I have inadvertently stumbled into over time regarding my perception of marketing and what people ultimately want. Thanks for the little tap on the cheek (face), Seth.

The Heart of Success was predicted to be a dense book of dullness but was in fact light reading and more philosophical than prescriptive. No big epiphanies but still enjoyable enough and mostly agreeable.

Happy Money was a let down. It was OK. Like Heart of Success, most of it was agreeable and nothing necessarily new learned. My cynicism unfortunately got the better of me and all I kept thinking was “its easy to tell people to be happy about money when you’ve made your millions already”. I think if you can cut through that likely unfair view, you’d get some value from the book.

Ray Warren - Why? Why is this in my pile of books to read? I have no idea but my guess is either part of a pile of books gifted to me by Jess or - Either way, thank you. I wasn’t expecting a great deal from this but it ended up being a bit of fun rugby league nostalgia and also an autobiography that reminded me of the many older generation I grew up with when living all over rural Queensland in the early 90s. An easy, light hearted read with plenty of entertaining stories.

Onwards to May’s books.
