The Caught Up Project
This DVD hepatitis C health promotion resource is the initiative of NSW Health’s Jailbreak Health Project (JHP), at Sydney’s Community Restorative Centre (CRC), a project targeting prisoners and families at risk to blood-borne virus (BBV) and sexually transmitted infections (STI). The JHP project produces Jailbreak, a weekly national radio program streaming, broadcasting and podcasting from Sydney’s 2SER 107.3 FM on Gadigal Land; podcasting on NSW Department of Justice’s Inmate Green Intranet and broadcasting around Australia to local community stations via the Community Radio Network (CRN).
‘Caught Up' is a collaborative interpretation of the life experiences of Aboriginal youth in custody; a population identified at high risk to exposure to hepatitis C. The music, choreography, performance, lyrics and cover design are all original works and the performance of 10 Aboriginal custodial males at Sydney’s OMMPCC’s IDATP program. The participants attended a 3 day prison based rap workshop working alongside the award-winning Aboriginal hip hop band The Last Kinection. This hep C harm minimisation DVD resource is the result of their work and achievement in developing a sustainable and creative hepatitis C health promotion targeting youth in custody.
