It’s hard to believe that one of Australia’s best board paddlers just happened to be there when he was needed most.
Charlie, your courage, composure and instinct to put others before yourself were all on display on Saturday. You did yourself, your family, North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, Newport SLSC and the entire surf lifesaving movement proud.
We’ve been privileged to watch you win World Titles, Australian Medals and compete in the professional Iron Series, but none of those achievements come even close to what you did on Saturday.
Thank you for your extraordinary courage and composure in the face of such danger. We couldn’t be prouder of you, mate.
We’re also thinking of all the community members who assisted at Coogee on Saturday and thank them for stepping forward when it mattered most. Most importantly, our thoughts are with the victim and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
