Murray-Darling Basin communities have had their say on the future of the basin plan, which is currently under review.

Environmental outcomes and water buybacks are the focus of many submissions to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.

Communities across the Murray-Darling Basin are calling for a better balance, as irrigators say water buybacks are hurting their communities.

Peter Brown is a 2026 'Riverland Sports Nut'! 🏐

Growing up, Peter played plenty of games of backyard cricket with his five siblings, especially on Christmas Day.

These days Peter is the president of the Riverland Bowls Association and said he's dipped his toes into a variety of sports over the years.

Peter umpired both netball and baseball for 13 years and is a lifetime member at the Renmark Netball Club.

He said while it's important to have fun while playing sport, once the game begins, it's on.

"You have got to have that competitive spirit but learn to enjoy it off the field as well," Peter said.

The Geranium Op Shop has raised a whopping $27,000 within its first 12 months of trade, despite only being open two days a week.❤️

Of the funds, $15,000 was donated to domestic violence support organisations Centacare and the Zahra Foundation.

The shop marked its success with a red bench event to raise awareness of domestic violence, where more than 30 community members came together. 🫶

Shop manager Margaret Smith said her own family's lived experience with domestic violence has motivated her.

"There's so many people who have been touched by domestic violence," she said.

"I have people come in not even knowing we're supporting those charities that start opening up about their own experience, so to know our little op shop can be assisting people in those circumstances is fantastic."

A South Australian government fund of more than $28 million to assist rural industries has sat unused for a decade.

The Rural Industry Adjustment and Development Fund was established in the 1980s to provide loans and grants at the discretion of the primary industries and regions minister.

General manager of CCW Co-operative, a collective of independent Riverland growers, and Glossop winegrape grower Peter Szabo said he was shocked by the unspent funds.

Do you have a favourite rabbit recipe? 🐇🍲

Once sold door-to-door as an affordable fare for working-class people, these days, rabbit meat is more commonly found in the fine dining scene.

Despite rising populations in the wild, some chefs and butchers say it's hard to get their hands on rabbit meat.

Once a cheap meat for families doing it tough, the price and availability of rabbit means it has gone from family dinner to fine dining.
