Believe it or not, all of these fish have been labelled as snapper to consumers.

A 2024 study of seafood mislabelling in Australia found that snappers had the second highest mislabelling rate (25.2%), right after sharks and rays.

Australia’s fishy labelling laws mean you don’t know what’s really on your plate. That opens the door to seafood fraud, like substituting a cheaper fish for a more expensive one.
