It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll!

Here's a little pic of our ride from Rockhampton to Biloela for lunch (I had a sausage roll and Bundaberg ginger beer - it went down a treat!).

The best part of the Marlborough Loop isn’t the sweepers or the gravel — it’s the people. Rolling into the servo and seeing bikes lined up, familiar faces rolling in, new riders giving it a crack, and everyone swapping stories before we even think about hitting the road… that’s the heartbeat of Rocky Adventure Riders!

Been busy tinkering in the shed and now the Dropbear's (2010 DR650) suspension is looking pretty good now. Top is before, bottom is after servicing. My first time servicing a shock - not perfect but a lot better than before I'm sure.

Changed the reservoir cap to a Schrader valve style (From Teknik) rather than hyperdermic needle type (looking at getting my own nitrogen kit, but local 4wd suspension shop did the re-gasing this time), preload collars replaced with XTrig 8mm preload adjuster (also from Teknik), new oil, bump stop, and top seal, and bladder (All balls full service kit) - cleaned the rest up before reassembly. Can't wait to get it back on and go for a ride!

Meet… The Dropbear.
Yes, it’s real. Yes, it bites.

My ADV journey started fancy — a Triumph Scrambler 1200XE Goldline. Gorgeous. Capable. Taller than my hopes and dreams. After a few rides I realised it was basically a bar stool with an engine.

So I downsized to the Himalayan 450. Lovely bike. Confidence‑inspiring. Touching the ground felt like a luxury. But eventually I wanted a bit more grunt.

I began the quest for the mythical unicorn adventure bike. I think I’ve found it… but the bank account says that reveal comes later.

Then it hit me:
Get an in‑between‑bikes bike. Something simple. Something tough. Something that won’t cry if I drop it.

Enter The Dropbear — a 2010 DR650 with the personality of a brick and the reliability of a fridge. Similar power to the Himi, but way punchier. Easy to work on. Cheap parts everywhere. Zero bells. Zero whistles. Maximum chaos.

Perfect.

Here’s to whatever mischief The Dropbear and I get into next.
