Great Keppel Island – cliff fall

A woman was airlifted to hospital on Monday, 6 October, after a four-metre fall from a cliff on Great Keppel Island.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the woman, aged in her 60s, was assessed and found to have suffered hip, arm and head injuries.
The spokesperson said she was in a stable condition when transported to Rockhampton Hospital.....

After recent success at the Coastal Rowing National Championships in Sydney, there is growing support for bringing Olympic Coastal Rowing to Emu Park.

With single lightweight rowing slowly being phased out, Coastal Rowing is gaining popularity as its replacement and is anticipated to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club’s director of surf sports Michelle McRae said it was exciting that Emu Park was being considered as a host venue for Olympic Coastal Rowing at the 2032 Olympics....

The waves of Emu Park are set to welcome a brand-new sporting adventure this October, as the community is invited to experience the excitement of coastal rowing with former Rockhampton schoolgirl and current Australian rower Sami Blanchard.
To celebrate this milestone, Rowing Queensland is inviting locals to its Coastal Rowing Come and Try Days at the Emu Park Surf Club on Wednesday 8 October and Thursday 9 October 2025, with both morning and afternoon sessions available.

On Saturday, 18 October, the Capricorn Coast Historical Society will be opening its doors to the public for an open day.
Come along from 9.30am to 12.30pm to find out what happens in ‘The Bunker’, the former SES premises behind Yeppoon Town Hall in Normanby St, not far from Beaman Park.

There will be displays of old maps, posters, books, bookbinding, vintage tv footage and other memorabilia. Enjoy a yarn about the past under the marquee with free morning tea....

Livingstone Shire Council has marked the completion of the Werribee Road Bridge renewal at Canal Creek, providing a safer and more reliable crossing for the local community.
The project replaced an ageing timber bridge with a reinforced concrete structure designed to last more than 50 years.

The upgrade increases the bridge’s capacity from 12 tonnes to 47 tonnes, allowing heavy cattle trucks and large agricultural machinery to cross safely......

The Yeppoon RSL Sub-Branch has officially reopened its renovated premises following a major upgrade supported by more than $100,000 in funding from the Iwasaki Foundation.

Foundation directors joined local dignitaries, representatives from other Queensland RSL Sub-Branches and community members for a celebratory breakfast on Saturday, 20 September, marking the grand opening of the refurbished building.

The works include an extended undercover verandah area and new all-abilities lift access, upgrades made possible through the Foundation’s contribution....

Emu Park Waste Transfer Station has officially reopened following the completion of a $650,000 upgrade by Livingstone Shire Council.
The four-month project, funded through the council’s Capital Works Program, was designed to improve the facility’s functionality, efficiency and safety.
The upgrades include a new recycling bin area, a bulk item recycling shed, a modern gatehouse, improved road access and a seagull lane to streamline recycling drop-offs, as well as new signage and line marking.....

Capricorn Coast artist Carole Elliott is in the spotlight on the world stage after receiving the Lila Teich Gold Award at the Pastel Society of America’s 53rd Annual Exhibition Enduring Brilliance in New York City for her artwork Touched by the Tide.

This achievement elevates Carole to one of the highest international distinctions in pastel art: the distinguished status of Master Pastelist.

The award was announced on Friday, 19 September, at the National Arts Club, where Carole’s painting was also sold to a New York collector.....

A hiker was winched to safety this week after being injured while hiking at Mount Baga.
Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service’s Rescue300 helicopter was tasked to the scene at 2pm on Monday, 22 September.
A CapRescue spokesperson said the man aged in his 70s had sustained injuries that prevented him from continuing the hike, and his location made it impossible for emergency crews to stretcher him out.
