Tonight 8.15pm on Ngaarda TV say G'day to the Cameleers!

Four Australian Muslim boys, eager to connect with their heritage, embark on a summer adventure to trace the footsteps of the Afghan cameleers—Muslim immigrants who helped build the heart of Australia over 60 years ago.

As they travel through the outback, visiting the final resting places, ancient mosques, and historic caravan tracks of these legendary camel drivers, they uncover the untold stories of their ancestors' contributions to the development of Australia's inland.

Along the way, they forge a deeper understanding of their own identity, the rich cultural history of their community, and the enduring legacy of the cameleers who shaped the nation’s history. Through personal discoveries, historical revelations, and a deepening bond with each other, the boys learn the power of storytelling, preservation, and pride in their roots.

G’day Cameleers is a heartfelt, coming-of-age journey that celebrates the hidden histories of Australia, the strength of cultural identity, and the importance of connecting with one’s past to navigate the future.

Last week was an epic day at Wickham Primary School, with students and staff taking part in an exciting introduction to Wheelchair Football, delivered in partnership with the Swan Districts Football Club.

Across six engaging sessions, students quickly picked up the sport while learning the importance of teamwork, communication and inclusion — all while having plenty of fun. It was inspiring to see how confidently young people embraced something new and supported one another throughout the day.

The initiative reflects the Swans’ ongoing commitment to community engagement and inclusive sport, made possible with the support of Karratha Toyota, Rio Tinto, Camco Engineering and Telethon7 Perth.

Traditional Owners push for control of Indigenous data in national Canberra meeting

Traditional Owners from across Australia have met in Canberra to advance a national push for Indigenous Data Sovereignty — calling for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to control how information about their communities is collected, stored and used.

The meeting brought together representatives from Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd, the Anindilyakwa Land Council Data Unit, Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation and the Juukan Gorge Legacy Foundation at the first Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshop hosted by the Australian National University’s First Nations Portfolio.

Senior officials from the National Indigenous Australians Agency and the Australian Bureau of Statistics later joined the discussions.

At the centre of the talks was the long-standing concern that governments and institutions hold vast amounts of data about First Nations people, while communities themselves often have limited access to it — or say in how it is interpreted.

Participants said reclaiming control of community data is essential to informed decision-making, cultural authority and long-term self-determination.

The group also examined how Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles could support Priority Reform 4 under the Closing the Gap agreement, which focuses on shared access to data and information.

There was particular attention on how national systems — including preparations for the 2026 Census — could better reflect Indigenous governance, consent and community control.

The Canberra gathering marks the early formation of a new alliance led by Traditional Owner organisations, aimed at shifting long-held power imbalances in Australia’s data systems.

Each organisation is already working locally to repatriate data, build community data capability and embed Indigenous governance over information that affects their people.

Attendees said the workshop was a first step toward coordinated national action, with further collaboration planned to influence policy, research and data practices across government and institutions.

For many involved, the message was clear: data about First Nations communities should no longer be extracted without authority — it should be governed by the people it represents.

🐊 BABY CROC CONFIRMED FROM DERBY 🐊

Jordan Alex was fishinb in Cockatoo Creek, Derby.

Just to clear things up — the baby crocodile was found in Derby, not Cossack.

While there have been crocodile sightings around Cossack before (so it’s not totally out of the question), this one is definitely from Derby.

Thanks to everyone who checked in appreciate the sharp eyes 👀
