When I started creating content consistently in March I didn’t realise how much I’d enjoy editing videos and putting together something that’s like a mini episode of a tv show.

Hairdressing is such a creative art form so I suppose it’s only natural that being creative with editing was also so fun for me HOWEVER it took me weeks to get used to the Edits app and how best to cut and slice 20 minutes of a video into a short form one minute reel.

If you’re just getting used to editing: do you find this part easy or a massive ballache? If it’s the latter and you want to know more then I’d love to know in the comments because if it would be helpful to learn then I would really enjoy teaching that kind of thing here in a new reel series??

I started 2026 in a slump because I did all these things on the regular and wondered why I wanted to light a match at the salon doors and walk away.

I started putting in more boundaries, released the clients that no longer aligned with my values, was able to increase my prices slightly to reflect best business practice AND I found a new found love of social media and went from 3k to 52k followers without feeling like it was ‘another job’.

This isn’t a boast…I just want to help as many hairdressers as I can know that this IS possible so drop me a comment (or a DM if you’re shy) and let me know what’s not working for you because I genuinely want to know and I want to make it my business to get this industry a wee bit better for us (because it’s a great one…I think we’ve just lost our way).

I’m still figuring it all out too; the most inspiring people that I follow are doing the same. We’re in it together. Hope to see you here more fellow stylist 💋

The reason my Cocktails and Curls classes were so popular was because I could help people style their hair in person and move their hand positions after seeing what they were doing wrong myself.

Now, I realise that’s impossible when you’re watching a video trying to copy, but I hope that by showing the common mistakes that people make via Clare who was also making them and then correcting them for you that we can fix this!

I bloody love teaching. I keep harping on about it but I can’t help it because seeing someone finally get something that they’ve been trying to do for ages is just bloody magical.

Hairdressers…do you teach? And if not then would you like to? And if not what’s holding you back? I had a lovely message from someone a month ago saying she’d love to teach like I do in my academy and I gave her a ton of help so would love to explore this some more with other hairdressers x

That feeling in your tummy when you get the text: ‘My hair isn’t right, can you fix it?’. Arghh it’s worse than that time when you were 16 and you saw that lad you snogged having it off with the popular lass at school behind the bins.

Adjustments are normal and fully expected from time to time. A constant barrage of texts after each appointment is not, especially when I’m talking the difference between a 5.0 and a 6.0 with slight various of .13, .73 and .77.

I thought her colour was beautiful, and she seemed to agree at the end of each appointment but then I’d spend a week in constant fear because I knew she’d message to say she was unhappy. I think I’m a pretty decent colourist but it was time to say goodbye.

I was so surprised when she expressed her devastation at the prospect of this so she came back in but again…the same thing. Perhaps it wasn’t actually about the hair but about how she felt in herself? Or perhaps she genuinely wasn’t happy but there’s no point in flogging a bandy horse so it had to stop.

I remained firm on my stance which was so hard because she actually was lovely, and this was about five years ago, before I became stronger as a business owner and had the necessary skills to implement a full break up.

I was the QUEEN of excuses at the beginning of the year as to why I should wait to start posting on socials. Who the fck has ‘lose 5kgs before I start posting’ on the to do list?! I was being an absolute melt.

It wasn’t until I realised that the price of staying exactly where I was (in a burnout unhappy hole) was WAY HIGHER than the cost of climbing cringe mountain and just posting the damn video.

I’m still no where near perfect at this, I’m still learning how best to edit and get my point across. I just learnt today about keyframes and how to slow zoom in (will get better asap at this!).

But learning as you go is actually so fcking fun and I’m having a blast. My business is improving, I’ve been offered opportunities that I wouldn’t have been offered without social media and although I’m still trying to work out how I can make some serious money through all of this, I’m loving the process.
