Want to get started with sensory play but feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start?

Our ready to go play kits are perfect for those who are wanting to start out but feel overwhelmed with it all.

There are a few options:

Play at home kits - they come in two sizes and offer a range of loose part items and playdough centred around a particular theme.

Ready Set Play pouches - our bug hunt pouch comes with sensory rice, some insects and bugs, tongs and a magnifying glass. All you need to do is find a tub or bowl to pour it into and your little one can get stuck straight into it!

Potion pouches - who doesn’t love a fizzing reaction? These cute little packs come with different coloured fizzy dust, dried flowers, a dropper and spoon. All you need to do is add vinegar and mix together to create some awesome fizzing potions!

All of these are available on our website, ready to purchase and ship to you! Or, if you’re a local you can pick up for free or we offer free delivery to some nearby suburbs.

Have you tried this taste-safe activity?

I don’t know about your little ones, but mine have had a long fascination with any type of water play. It’s one of the most popular activities at play sessions also.

I do like to change things up a little from time to time and replace the regular pouring activities with something a little different.

𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 - I used something a little different for the mud this time and I think I might actually prefer it. In the past I’ve used a mixture of water, flour and cocoa to make “mud” but have found it quite thick and gluggy which can be off putting for some people. This time I used a chocolate cake mix and just added water.

The consistent was more runny but I think it works out to be less messy because it easily washes off when you put your hand in the soapy water.

An extra tip for those cooler months:
Use warm water in water play, it’s much more inviting on those cooler days!

— DYED SPAGHETTI —

Ingredients:
1kg Spaghetti
Food colouring

Method:
1. Boil water on the stove
2. Once boiled add food colouring and pasta (I had to do this several times because my pot wasn’t big enough for the pasta)
3. As it’s cooling check the colouring of the pasta and add more if needed
4. Drain and cool before using

Tips:
• either use a very large pot or do several batches
• if you’re doing several batches you can change up the colour a little to add some more depth
• cook the pasta for less time than suggested so it’s not falling apart
• I added tongs and animals but you could add anything you like to extend play e.g. safety scissors, pasta scoops, chopsticks, bowls etc

What do you do when you need a break?

As a mum to young children I constantly feel like I’m being pulled in every direction. Trying to create the balance of being present with my children but also keeping on top of the day to day tasks. I often find myself swinging between being really organised, and constantly feeling like I’m playing catch up.

I’ve been reflecting on why this keeps happening and one of the reasons I can come up with is that I don’t take enough time for myself 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 then I burn out and spend a day “relaxing” and not keeping on top of the washing or my work and now I’m playing catch up!

It’s exhausting.

Maybe if I started scheduling time to read or go for a walk without the kids, without the distractions of work or household tasks I wouldn’t burn out so quickly.

Hey! It’s been awhile since I’ve introduced myself and I am in the mood for a chat!

I’m Teri and I am the owner of My Busy Bin. I have two gorgeous boys (1y and 6y) a dog, a cat and some tropical fish!

I’m based on the south end of the Central Coast of NSW.

My favourite way to switch off is with a good book but lately I’ve been struggling to find time to read 😢(I must start making time!)

At the top of my playlist - if you don’t count Emma Memma, The Wiggles and Ms Rachel - is Taylor Swift (always 🫣) and I also love a good self-development or business podcast!

One thing I’ve been finding annoying lately is if I don’t have a plan or idea of what to play with my children or what I can use to keep them occupied while I get a couple of things done. They either become super clingy or ask to watch their iPad a gazillion times 🤪 lol.
