Flick & Dave: The Next Chapter

Flick & Dave: The Next Chapter Every ending is the start of something wild.

Flick & Dave: The Next Chapter
Preparing for life on the road, chasing freedom, sunsets, creativity & a little bit of peace. We’re Flick & Dave, two slightly feral, coffee-fuelled humans who decided life’s too short to wait for “one day.” So, we’re prepping to pack it all up and head off on our next big adventure: life on the road, chasing the kind of freedom you can’t find chained to the grind. T

his page is our digital campfire; part blog, part vlog, part beautiful chaotic us, and when we hit the road it will be all about our travel and life as nomads. You’ll find our travel plans, downsizing stories, honest life updates, occasional deep thoughts, and probably a few too many “we nearly divorced over this set up” moments. We’re not influencers, we’re just us, figuring it out as we go, laughing through the mess, and sharing the real parts most people edit out. So pull up a chair, grab a cuppa (or something stronger), and join us as we plan, dream, and maybe accidentally set off the smoke alarm trying to cook in the van. Because this isn’t a polished highlight reel, it’s the next chapter of our story… and it’s going to be one hell of a ride. 🚐✨

So apparently by the end of this year we’ll have to prove we’re adults just to Google stuff that’s actually important for school, uni, and if your so inclined a little adult entertainment.

Unless verified, search engines will only let us see kiddie-friendly results (and if you dont log in, well your on safe search), as if Albo needs all our help finding free corn sites himself, I can email him some links if he likes… 😉

Honestly, is this really about kids’ safety or just another layer of internet control? It’s feels very Black Mirror.

Our beautiful (Mum, Nan) Shirley passed away peacefully, surrounded by love.

Our hearts are heavy, but they are also full of gratitude, full of memories and full of the kind of love that only five generations can create.

To the palliative care team and the community nurses: thank you will never be enough. Your compassion, gentleness and unwavering support carried not just Nan, but all of us through. You didn’t just care for her body, you cared for her dignity, her comfort and supported us to ensure she had the transition she chooses. We will forever be grateful for the way you showed up, time after time, with kindness and humanity.

Nan was the glue. The storyteller. The steady presence of our entire family.

Five generations were held in her love and now she is held in our hearts forever.

There is deep grief, but also peace in knowing she was loved fiercely, cared for tenderly and left this world knowing exactly who she was to us.

Rest softly, Nan.

We will miss you more than words can say.

Forever our Bitchasaurus. 💛

Sometimes the only way through grief is to create something where the hurt lives.

The white cockatoos arrived today. I noticed. I understood. A reminder that everything moves in cycles, and no one ever really leaves us.

If you don’t know what these are, perhaps you’ve never found a 12 inch hair that’s sprouted overnight growing out of one of your moles…

Thanks to my good friend and fellow mole hair spotter of my little treat 😍

I get it now, the rage.

Cancer doesn’t just take lives… it strips people of their dignity, their comfort, their peace.

It causes pain that no one should ever have to feel, and it destroys whole worlds in the process.

I’m done softening it. I’m done being polite.

FU, cancer.

I woke up to my HRV sitting deep in the red, which is usually my body’s way of warning me that a big flare is on the way. But with starting a new medication on Saturday, it could just as easily be that kicking things off.

After two days off with a vestibular migraine and fainting more times than anyone should in a week, I’m feeling pretty flat and pretty beaten down.

Right now, all I can do is buckle up, ride the POTS train, and hope this journey takes me to “recovered” sooner rather than later.

The chronic illness journey really is full of twists and turns.

Forever obsessed with churches. I took the kids to see St Mary’s Church in Hagley today and there was a man there who asked us if we would like to see inside… Absolutely! Anyway we were all stoked!

We’ve been thinking about this for a while and decided instead of selling our beloved Lark, we would offer him up for hire 😍

Please share, let’s see if we can get him booked out for an epic summer full of adventures. Honestly, I would take him but I just have way too much study and work to do this summer 😭

Lark is pet friendly, and we have set him up so all you need to bring is your clothing… And we can even deliver and set him up for you (now thats glamping 💕)

She said “parents are on their phones just as much as kids these days! Put your phone down and have a real conversation with your kid!”

Me in the car: “So Ham… how’s everything going?”

Ham:
“Did you know the average teen scrolls the height of Mt Everest every 3.2 days?”
“Apparently Gen Z thumbs are evolving faster than cave-people’s foreheads.”
“YouTube says 87% of teens learn life skills from tutorials… like folding fitted sheets and surviving quicksand.”
“Statistically, teens speak 74% less when a parent initiates the conversation.”
“There’s a 1 in 5 chance a teen will fake a yawn to avoid deep chats.”
“Experts found teens communicate best through memes between 9pm–2am only.”
“Apparently 63% of teens check their phone to avoid eye contact.”
“Studies show 98% of teens believe they ‘already answered that’ even when they said nothing.”
“Oh, and my algorithm recommends I talk less and hydrate more.”

Me: slowly turns music back up 🎵😂

Selfie of a mother who got fact bombed all over the USA and NZ, of and Hawaii, QLD… Tasmania… Anywhere a road trip takes us that kid has ALL the facts about everything you didn’t need to know. 🤣
