Bloody heartbreaking scene out at Linton this weekend – the town’s Firefighters Memorial, a place built on respect and remembrance, has been trashed by vandals.
The bollards that protect the site were sawn clean off, the steel cabling stripped and stolen.
Not just petty theft, but a gut-punch to a community that still carries the scars of the 1998 Linton Bushfire – the tragedy that took the lives of five CFA volunteers.
Locals say it feels like more than vandalism, it’s a slap in the face to the memory of those who never came home.
This memorial isn’t just a few stones and signs – it was upgraded only last year to give people a place to sit, reflect and remember. A place of quiet, now scarred by saw marks and missing wire.
It’s sad, and it’s left plenty asking what kind of person would take from a site like this. There’s anger, but mostly there’s heartbreak.
And until the damage is repaired, the Linton Firefighters Memorial will stand as both a tribute to courage – and a reminder of the disrespect that still somehow exists in the world.
