Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa have come to perpetuate damaging gender stereotypes, and this digital gender bias has real-life implications.

"The place of women and the perception of their role has been, in part, deputised to machines, and we are fooling ourselves if we believe that automation doesn’t need just as much societal supervision as humans," says Carla Wilshire OAM, author of 'Time to Reboot: Feminism in the Algorithm Age'.

Siri and friends perpetuate damaging gender stereotypes: hostess, maid, secretary, muse, consort.

This week, in the lead up to International Women's Day, we celebrated the launch of two very important works for gender equality from Monash University Publishing

With 'Time to Reboot' and 'Towards Reproductive Justice', Carla Wilshire and Ronli Sifris discuss the future of women's issues in Australia: with navigating feminism in the digital age and Australia's stance on reproductive rights.

Thank you to Readings for being wonderful hosts, as well as conversation partners Nyadol Nyuon and Mary Crooks.

We're all about more funding for Australian writers. Let's make sure we're supporting the market for their books as well.

Here's why fixed-price laws for books are essential to the national cultural policy and why small, independent bookstores are vital to Australian literature.

Other countries have tweaked competition rules to save their independent booksellers. So why doesn’t Australia?

Australia's newest Children's Laureate is Sally Rippin, one of our best-loved, most dedicated and highest selling children’s authors.

As firm believers in falling in love with reading at an early age, Pitch was delighted to work with Sally for the 10th anniversary of her "Billie B Brown" series and the launch of the "Little Monsters" series.

Melbourne-based author Sally Rippin has been named the eighth ambassador for Australian children’s literature.

In his Quarterly Essay out on 27 November, Alan Kohler writes, "At the same time as everybody was worrying about the world’s computers grinding to a halt with Y2K, there was a collision between demand and supply and house prices started to depart from the rest of the economy, and from our incomes."

‘The Great Divide’ covers the cause behind Australia’s housing crisis at the turn of the 21st century and how we might fix it.

A political strategy to increase property values, and win votes, is being amplified by a banking industry seeking higher profits.

The resumed in Melbourne today: Guda Maluyligal plaintiffs, Uncle Paul Kabai and Uncle Pabai Pabai, continue their “knocking on the government’s door” for Australia to address its inaction over the climate threat of their sinking communities.

We support a new chapter in the story of this country and we’ll be voting YES on Saturday.

In recent months, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have chosen to speak up and share their stories to help Australians understand what the Voice means, where it has come from, and why we need it. We encourage you to read, listen and learn. If you don’t know, find out.

In Rachel Perkins’ words, “History will recall our country’s response to the Voice referendum for generations to come.”

We support the YES vote because it is a step forward; a step towards reconciliation and recognition, to better outcomes in health and education, and to truth-telling and treaty.

Australian composer Christopher Larkin, the musical creative talent behind 'Hollow Knight' and its upcoming sequel 'Silksong', sat down with Limelight to chat about orchestras and their arrangements of video game scores.

Indie Symphony will feature over 60 musicians and singers live on stage, and will bring some of the best-known video game scores of recent years to Hamer Hall, courtesy of Orchestra Victoria and VicScreen.

This epic evening of live music from the world’s most loved indie video games, from 'Hollow Knight', 'Hades', 'Stray Gods', 'Celeste' (and more!) will take place at Hamer Hall on Friday 8 September.

Orchestra Victoria's Indie Symphony showcases video game music "every bit as moving, melodic and evocative” as classical concert hall fare.
