ARTSREADY TRAINEES HELPING TO REVIVE ARTS THROUGH VR & AR

Ignition Immersive, a Melbourne based media studio, has taken on two proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men this year, Lewis and Lachie, to join their team of creatives.

The studio specialises in Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies and is on a mission to help revive and revolutionise the arts and creative industry, after being so badly hit due to COVID-19.

Our two amazing trainees are a part of this exciting journey and are working alongside Darren, the Chief Dreamer of the studio, and his passionate team. He believes traineeships are the perfect way to upskill young people especially in an industry like digital media that is the way of the future.

In this podcast, Darren talks about his experience as a host employer, why he decided to take on two trainees in the midst of the pandemic, the exciting upcoming projects for Ignition Immersive and all things AR and VR.

“The eternal task of song can never be finished in a single lifetime. That is the beauty and fascination of the art”.
On this day in 1861 Nellie Melba was born in Richmond, Victoria.
She went on to become one of the brightest operatic stars, a trailblazer and a powerful force in Australia’s history.
Dame Nellie Melba’s story is incredibly inspirational, yet despite being on our $100 note, many Australians know little about her.
These are immersive reconstruction images from our VR project in development that aims to answer the questions of who Nellie was, what she stood for, and how she achieved it as a woman living at the turn of the last century.

Our 3D team has been busy!
3D scanning is used across many fields: reverse engineering, prototyping, cultural preservation, historical restoration and surveying among others. Anything that exists in the real world can be 3D scanned!
Here we used the Leica BLK360 laser scanner to capture the Chinese Burning towers in Beechworth. LIDAR equipment like this 3D scanner is used to capture point cloud models, which are a collection of captured points in a three-dimensional coordinate system.
We now have created a dimensionally accurate model that could be used in VR or AR applications.

Take in the wonderful contemporary art at the newly launched Virtual Gallery Space of Linden New Art.
Currently showing:
🎨Robert Fielding's "Routes/Roots". The exhibition investigates the maintenance and care for resources, which has been a finely balanced art manifested in old and new forms of storytelling.
🎨Jacqui Stockdale's "The Long Shot" explores the dominant narratives of Australian folk history, mythology and iconography and challenges their potency within a contemporary context.
🎨Karla Dickens' "My Mother’s Keeper" features a film and a series of new photographs produced as a result of a collaboration between the artist Karla Dickens and writer Bruce Pascoe. Initiated by the Kandos School of Cultural Adaptation, the work focuses on the urgent need for us to protect and conserve the land and our environment.

Our camera got to fly in this oldest airworthy Tiger Moth located at Temora Aviation Museum and we can't wait to bring this experience to your headsets and screens.

In paying tribute this ANZAC Day, where limitations on social gatherings are affecting all of us - including the shrines and museums that celebrate our Anzac's history - we worked with our friends at Temora Aviation Museum to record two special 360 degree videos for people to experience at home.
In this clip volunteer Malcolm Chaplin talks us through the 18 Pounder Mark II gun, used by the Australian Field Artillery during the WWI - the “war to end all wars”.
