RIP Johnny Young, an icon of the Australian music industry. To build a time machine and be a fly on the wall:
• When Vanda and Young sat (laid?) down in a hotel room full of young girls after an Easybeats gig in Perth in '66 and came up with Step Back for Johnny.
• When Barry Gibb shared a flat with Johnny in swinging London circa '67 and turned him into a proper songwriter.
• In the studio when Russell Morris recorded The Real Thing, written by Johnny and transformed it into an Australian classic under the production of Molly Meldrum.

Written by Herb and featuring guitar by his grandson Gavin, the track begins its journey in Lake Villa, Illinois, before making its way to Perth, Western Australia, where Joe adds the finishing touches. Dom Mariani and the rissoles were brilliant last night. Damn shame we missed The Offset though. Joe averaged 2.8l/100km there and back but Fish is a great way to get rid of the new car smell.
