With decades of experience in trade finance technology, Hervé shared how Trade Enabler has evolved beyond its trade finance roots to address some of the increasingly important challenges facing digital trade including fraud prevention, identity and trust.

A key theme from the conversation was data sovereignty. As more trade processes become digital, Hervé highlighted the importance of asking not only how data moves, but where it sits, who controls it and how trust is established across the ecosystem.

Import Export TV caught up with Sean White from XDC Network, one of the driving forces behind the inaugural Digital Trade Forum in Brisbane, to reflect on the vision behind the event and where the conversation could go next.

For Sean, the Forum was designed to be a “lightning rod” for digital trade: bringing together technologists, trade administrators, banks, finance specialists, customs professionals, chambers of commerce, government, importers, exporters and the businesses that will ultimately put these technologies into practice.

Because transforming trade isn't something one sector can achieve alone.

From digital infrastructure and digital currencies to AI and agentic technologies, the opportunities are significant. But progress depends on connecting the people building the solutions with the organisations that need to implement them.

That was also behind the deliberate design of the Forum creating conversations that crossed traditional industry boundaries, challenged perspectives and built bridges between people who might not ordinarily find themselves on the same panel.

The result? A room full of people who can now take those conversations back into their own industries and become torchbearers for the next stage of digital trade.

And this may only be the beginning.

Import Export TV caught up with Tim Edwards of HopgoodGanim Lawyers, our event partner and host of the inaugural Digital Trade Forum in Brisbane, to reflect on what made the day and the conversations in the room different.

For Tim, one of the most refreshing aspects of the Forum was the calibre and intent of the people it brought together.

This wasn't about networking for networking's sake. It was about bringing experts, decision-makers and influential voices across trade, technology and the digital economy into one room to connect, challenge ideas and, importantly, get things done.

Technology and the digital economy have been a strategic focus for HopgoodGanim for several years, particularly as Queensland continues to build its capabilities and position in this rapidly evolving sector.

Tim also highlighted one theme that ran naturally throughout the Forum: AI.

Rather than allowing AI to become another buzzword, the discussions moved quickly into its practical application where it is already creating value, where it isn't, and how it can help solve real challenges across trade and industry.

It was less about asking, “What might AI do someday?” and more about asking, “What can it actually do for us today?”
