Just over 100 kms down from Port Hedland. A free camp in the carpark at the old Whim Creek Hotel. Plenty of room for all rig sizes. It’s popular. We enjoyed it. Quiet from the road. We did the walk up the hill. Good views from the top. Nothing there so take everything with you.
There is a memorial there. Very interesting. Lest we forget.

Any recommendations for a camping spot close to water (sea, river, lake) close to Perth for short one or two night getaway. Around one hours drive would be great. I’d love to see/hear the water from the caravan. We are self contained so no power, water or facilities required and we prefer camping away from the crowds so no caravan parks. This may be asking too much close to Perth? I have wiki camps and hip camp app. Looking for personal recommendations. Thank you

How close does your van come?
We have 10cm on each side. Not a straight driveway either, has an anoying kick to the right as it enters the carport. All reversed in while on the car 1st go, on a bad day It takes 2 attempts. Been doing it for 4 years with this van at this house.

We were so thankful today for our Safety Dave Tyre Pressure Monitoring System – it genuinely paid for itself.
We have external valve stem sensors fitted to all tyres on both our car and caravan. While driving along the highway on our trip, one of our driver’s side caravan tyres was slashed on the inside, taking a chunk of tyre out.

Straight away the TPMS alarm sounded, alerting us to check. We pulled over and could see the tyre pressure dropping, which allowed us to safely stop and change the tyre on the side of the road.

For the cost of the system (around $400 AUD), it likely saved us from a full blowout, serious damage to our caravan, or worse – a potentially very dangerous situation for us.

We can’t recommend a quality tyre pressure monitoring system enough.

Peace of mind is priceless, especially when towing.

We left the windy coast this morning stopping first at Whyalla to empty the toilet canister and fill water tanks. We then headed to Port Augusta to wash salt spray off the RAM and the caravan. We then headed onto more roads not travelled stopping at Crystal Brook for a quick break then through Burra before stopping for the night at another wonderful free camp at Worlds End Reserve at Burra Gorge, SA

Toogoolawah in QLD just north of Esk is a great little town!!!
There is a free camp, a cracking pub with some quirky artwork and a great beer garden and great country hospitality!!!
It’s only an hour and a half from the Sunshine Coast and would make for a great weekend away to relax. We used it as an overnighter on our way west to the Birdsville Races and are glad we stopped.
The feed at the pub was excellent and the free camp was really quiet!
There’s a toilet at the old railway station and water taps around the place as well.
