Sommelier Oliver Summons at Grape & Grazing has given us his wine rec of the month: Henschke’s Five Shillings.

He says it's "a character-packed red that’s rooted in Barossa’s past, but crafted for today’s palate. It’s yummy and perfect for this month’s temperature".

Airservices Australia is engaging with communities across Brisbane on how to reduce the frequency and concentration of some flight paths. ✈️

Options include distributing flights more evenly over a wider area and reducing the concentration of flights over suburbs impacted by both arrivals and departures or both day and night flights.

Residents can find out more online at: engage.airservicesaustralia.com/nap4b

Residents wanting to give their feedback in person or discuss the detailed designs can book a meeting with Airservices in mid to late July. Feedback on the latest options will be open from July 19 to August 17, 2025.

As our High School and University students enjoy the mid-year break many will be celebrating great results. Others, however, will have results that are not what they hoped for and will require serious reflection.

Youth counsellor and coach at Going Beyond Results, and MHFA Instructor Gary Bruce has given some advice for how parents can handle this situation:

"A natural trap parents can fall into is to try and fix any and all problems for their kids. This does nothing to develop the skills and resilience that we want our young people to have."

The Queensland Government has unveiled a dazzling vision for a new 63,000-seat Olympic stadium in Victoria Park / Barrambin. 🌳

But look beyond the bedazzling artist impression and serious flaws emerge - so writes Design Professor Marcus Foth from QUT (Queensland University of Technology).

"A recent site test analysis commissioned by Save Victoria Park reveals that the stadium simply doesn’t fit...
Stadium construction on this scale requires a fenced-off worksite that’s up to three times the footprint of the building itself...
International standards, including those from the IOC, require not just seating for 63,000 inside, but crowd control space for another 63,000 waiting outside between sessions.
That means holding areas, wide forecourts, food stalls, toilets, shaded waiting zones and emergency vehicle access—adding up to over seven football fields of flat terrain. ..None of that appears in the government’s visualisations.
Then there’s the land itself. Victoria Park is not flat. It features level changes of up to 35 metres, meaning any stadium would require massive excavation, retaining walls, or raised podiums."

A mother and son duo are shaping a new retail and hospitality precinct near the Moray Street roundabout, through their wine bar, Grape & Grazing.

Nineteen-year-old sommelier Oliver Summons said: “We wanted to open specifically in New Farm – we know the people well, and we know what they want.

“Our aim is simple – to be a place where people can drink and eat good food for a few hours. A place where you can stay on a table so long that you move into dinner,” he said.

As construction costs rise, there is value in rediscovering the art of doing more with less. Emma Butterworth from EBArchitects has shared some practical ways homeowners can apply these principles.

"The most effective small spaces serve double duty."

"A guest bedroom used once or twice a year can function as a home office with a fold-down Murphy bed. A garage placed adjacent to a courtyard, designed with roller doors at either end can transform into children's play area when not housing vehicles."

"A nook or an alcove is a great way to create intimate spaces within a larger space."
