2025 WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Grenada Athletic Association announces a four (4)-member team for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan from Saturday 13th September to Sunday 21st September 2025.
The team is comprised of the following athletes:
Athlete Event
Kirani James 400 Meters Male
Anderson Peters Javelin Male
Lindon Victor Decathlon Male
Kelsie Murrel-Ross Discus Female
The athletes will be accompanied by coaches Paul Phillip, Christopher Lawrence, Christopher Huffins and Marissa Chew.
The delegation have started to arrive in Tokyo from several locations ahead of the championship.

Twenty-seven (27) Groovy Soca artistes have secured their place in the Brian Griffith Groovy Soca Semi-Final, following three nights of intense preliminary competition held at the Carenage Basketball Court from July 10th to 12th.

These semi-finalists will now take the stage at Progress Park, St. Andrew, on Thursday, July 24th, where they will compete for a coveted spot in the final, scheduled for August 8th at the National Cricket Stadium.

Digicel has announced the immediate closure of its Caribbean-wide news platform Loop News and plans to wind down regional sports broadcaster SportsMax by August 8th. The telecoms giant says the move marks a strategic pivot away from consumer-facing content to a greater focus on enterprise solutions and digital services under its business arm.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Digicel said affected staff had already been informed and that transition support would be provided in line with local labour laws.

Loop News, launched in 2014, had built a reputation as a popular regional digital news outlet. SportsMax, founded in 2002, was home to a range of high-profile sporting content and was instrumental in the careers of numerous Caribbean broadcasters.

The company says its new focus will centre on Trend Media and the recently acquired Symptai, allowing it to offer an expanded suite of ICT services including cloud, cybersecurity, digital advertising, and compliance.

Digicel thanked its audiences and employees, acknowledging the legacy of the two media brands but stating that the shift was necessary to create greater value in its business offerings across the region.

Thirty-one (31) artistes have been selected to move onto the semi-finals of the Dr. Trevor Friday Power Soca Monarch.

Semi-finalists were selected after four (4) nights of competition in the preliminary round, held at the Carenage Basketball Court from July 3rd to 6th. Artistes will hit the semi-finals stage on July 25th at the Progress Park, St. Andrew, in their bid for a spot in the Dr. Trevor Friday Power Soca Monarch Final on Friday August 8th.
