This is no different to teaching children to scream, when touched inappropirately." Or teaching children to say NO! STOP! to their bullies.
So, why is silence still so ingrained and accepted as "normal," in the working world?

We can't make people see us, that can barely see themselves.
We can't make people appreciate us, that don't appreciate themselves.
We can't make people treat us well, that mistreat themselves.
We can't make people love us, that have never felt a deep loving for themselves.
Summary, the way people treat us, they treat themselves. Their behaviour is about them.

In this team huddle, we disscused what it means to practice mindfully. After such a long break, we noticed many of our players fallen back into old habits. An emphasis on practicing mindfully has been a key reminder at all of our training sessions this week, because to change old habits i.e. old shooting form, it is vital to move from the automatic-subconscious mind to a mindful mind.

Unarguably one of my favorite weekly sessions. I Love coaching these girls. They come to each training with a sponge mentality, ready learn.
Honestly that's all it takes, a ready to learn attitude, which is more important than any physical skills.

A little snippet of my work with dude (8yold). His a dominant lefty...our focus has predominately been about developing the non dominant right hand. Oh, and of course those crossovers and rip and go..
An amazing point guard in the making. πŸ’―

Welcome back ballers! πŸ₯³ Did you know that many athletes fail to incorporate enough rest in their regime? Well, how good has this time been for that? During this time, SIDA team members have used the opportunity to rest up and fill up their tanks; ready to go again. There if often negative stigma associated with rest; but we are here to tell you that the benefits are ample. Fear not! Here are some of the benefits:

- Injury Prevention
- Muscle Growth and Recovery. Oh yea, based on the human physiology, our muscles grow during the resting phase after a work out or exercise.
- Improved Clarity: we have loved listening to many of our athletes share their bball goals for 2021. Their vision is so clear.
- Improved Productivity
- Opportunity to attune with love and enjoyment of the game: many of our athletes have reunited with their love for bball during the break. So beautifully married to bball πŸ€—.

So, we conclude with the reminder that it is okay to rest. It is okay to take time out. BUT we are back and excited to resume coaching...just FYI.

We look forward to hooping with your well rested self on court.

- Imporve clarity: what we have loved about this time, are the many athletes that have reached out to us with specific and clear bball goals. We have also gained new insights on how we wish to operate our programs.
- Improve productivity
- Opportunity to attune with love and enjoyment for the game: how many times do we get caught up in the rush that we forget to connect with our core reasons for playing bball ?

So, we conclude with the reminder that it is okay to rest. It is okay to take time out. BUT we are back and excited to resume coaching..just FYI.

We look forward to catching your well rested self on court.

Being a great shooter is not about making buckets in the absence of pressure, object or an individual directly in front. Becoming a great shooter involves practicing and familiarizing yourself with hitting shots under pressure or with an object or individual in front of you. This is where it's going to count in a game.

In all facet of life, there is an opportunity to influence change for the better and basketball is no exception. The love of bball is shared by many different planetarians from mulitple backgrounds, age, gender etc. As basketball coaches, we must always remember we are change makers and in a privileged position to influence future adults and their behaviours. Learning and acquiring the skills and strategies of the game is just the tip of the iceberg. Our most important role is to influence a generation of players that equally value all beings and hold the things that truly matter at the forefront.
Coaches, it starts by being conscious of our actions, inaction and words - how do they influence young and impressionable players?

"When you cannot teach human beings to ball, you learn to teach rabbit beings."
Shout out to my real Easter rabbit Kemet for her amazing demonstration - one take, no edits. Impressive πŸ‘πŸΏ. This is your trick video.

Our Story

SIDA was established with the intent of solving two noticeable concerns within junior basketball. Firstly, the issue of inadequate coaching and secondly, the issue of gender discrimination in sports.

Upon noticing an epidemic of players lacking critical basketball fundamentals required for success at the game, we felt the need for a solution. Through our analysis of the situation, we discovered the core issue was no fault of the players but rather due to the inadequate coaching received mostly from a base of inexperience and lack of knowledge - often, commonly witnessed when an untrained parent or sibling assume the coaching role over engaging a professional coach. The SIDA Basketball Academy lives to resolve the issue through the provision of specialised coaches and elite basketball programs. At SIDA, our key focus is to ensure that your child has a solid foundation and achieves success in the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the game. Research and intervention studies show that the foundations for success are laid in childhood, hence making it critical that your child receives THE RIGHT COACHING, RIGHT FROM THE START!

The gender discrimination experienced in sports is a key development initiative of SIDA. Did you know that animal sports receive more television viewing time than female sports? According to research from the University of Massachusetts, female athletes are portrayed as inferior to male athletes causing low self-esteem, body image and lack of engagement in sports amongst females. Research also indicates a higher number of female drop-outs in sports, in comparison to the opposite gender. Our attention on female athletes is unique and driven by this strong evidence. Through program design and specific coaching methodologies, we aim to close the gap between female and male athletes and promote female sports with the attention it deserves.
