The KPO presents an afternoon of celebration on Sunday 16 November at 3 pm, Turramurra Uniting Church. Monica Buckland leads Mozart’s elegant Haffner Symphony, followed by Ben Jacks performing Strauss’s dazzling French Horn Concerto No. 1. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, full of rhythmic energy from folk-like themes to a whirling finale, embodies Wagner’s “apotheosis of the dance.” A community-based orchestra, the KPO relies on minimal council support. Tickets $15–$45.

Our Story

Fine Music Sydney (formerly known as 2MBS FM and Fine Music 102.5) is Australia’s first stereo FM radio station. The station was officially opened on 1 February 1975 and we have now been on-air for over 37 years. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we broadcast a wide range of fine music. Renowned composers, orchestras, ensembles and soloists are featured in programs of classical and jazz music. Australia’s most talented composers and performers are also featured regularly in our broadcasts. In addition, Fine Music Sydney is dedicated to fostering young Australian talent through the several annual youth engagement programs such as the Young Performers Award and Young Composers Award. To complement our fine listening, we also publish digitally Fine Music, a monthly magazine featuring interviews, previews, opinions, news, arts calendar and CD reviews. Fine Music has the complete listings of Fine Music Sydney airplay. Fine Music Sydney also has a professional recording studio for lease, which is used by some of Australia’s leading musicians for CD recordings. We also have a record catalogue featuring over 30 titles. Fine Music Sydney is owned and operated by the Music Broadcasting Society of New South Wales Co-operative Limited. We are a member of the NSW Public Broadcasting Association and the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. Apart from a small number of staff members, the station is entirely operated by hundreds of music lovers who generously volunteer their time and talents to organise and administer our extensive activities.
