Watching the live feed of the Sunshine Coast Council 2025-26 Budget delivery, it was obvious that many tough decisions had been made. Clearly not everyone was happy with where the Budget deliberations had landed. When the time came to vote on a motion to adopt the budget, some Councillors reluctantly voted in its favour, caving to the "common good" though clearly uncomfortable and two Councillors (Councillor Christian Dickson - Division 6 and Cr Ted Hungerford) voting against the motion. Click through for our budget summary.

Sunshine Coast Council today unveiled its 2025–26 Budget, focusing on responsible financial management and delivering essential services and infrastructure despite rising costs. The budget aims to limit the general rate rise for most owner-occupiers to $2.10 per week, while addressing community pr...

Sunshine Coast Council is preparing to release the proposed planning scheme for community feedback.

The new proposed planning scheme for the Sunshine Coast has been drafted – and your chance to help shape the future of our region is just around the corner.

It will set out proposed zones, building heights, design standards and much more. It will ensure land is set aside for homes, green spaces, community facilities and business, while planning for a climate-resilient future.

For the first time, the planning scheme will be web-based, making it easier to use and navigate. You’ll be able to explore the interactive maps and search your address to find out what the proposed planning scheme means for you and your local area.

Information sessions will be held across the region, providing opportunities to meet Council planners and other specialists, ask questions, and learn what the proposed planning scheme means for you and your community.

In preparation, the Sunshine Coast community is encouraged to sign-up to be notified when consultation opens and to explore the resources already online.

To sign-up quickly and easily for project updates, visit Council’s website https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/development/planning-documents/new-sunshine-coast-planning-scheme
